Cerveza: Sun God
Cervecera: Beavertown (Londres, Inglaterra)
Estilo: American IPA
Alcohol: 6.3º
It's been more than ten years since I discovered craft beer. Since then, when I drink a beer, I prefer it to be craft beer and I stay away from industrial beer as much as I can. The main reason is quality, there is no possible comparison between the two. This is non-negotiable and if you don't know how to see it, you don't have much idea about beer.
Well, the brand that I present to you today is a mythical reference for me. It was, along with Brewdog, one of the first that I tried, and although both have evolved for the worse as they have been absorbed by large international brands, I will always have the memory of those first beginnings in this exciting little world. Specifically, from Beavertown I remember their Gamma Ray, which I will tell you about in another post, and the Lupuloid. They drove me crazy back then.
The one I show you today, I had never tried before and it is far from those idyllic memories I have. As I said before, the quality of the brewery has decreased quite a bit.
Beer: Sun God
Brewery: Beavertown (London, England)
Style: American IPA
Alcohol: 6.3º
Hops: Who knows?
**Format: ** 440 ml can
In parts, it is neither an American IPA, nor does it taste like hops. But for more INRI, on the can, beautiful indeed, it says tropical IPA. Something that is not either, but that collides head-on with the parameters of American IPAs, which are Bitter, not tropical. This data says how little the current owners of the brand know about beer.
Anyway, the brewery of my fond memories has lost its way and now tastes just like an industrial one. This is what it takes to reduce costs infinitely to increase profits. A shame, but it is a practice that we see more and more. The large brewing groups absorb a good, renowned craft brewer to only corner more of the market and make more money, but destroying the origin and concept of craft beer.
Ah! I forgot to talk about the can. Well, tasteless and without body, watery and flat as a table. Don't buy it.
