What @joanstewart is asking is something I already experienced with my mom. My mom was always afraid of new technologies, especially cell phones and computers. She was never against using them, but rather against learning how to use them. She said that's what I was for.

But one day I told her, “Mom, I won't always be there to do things for you. At some point, at work or at home, you're going to have to start using them yourself, and it's better that you learn how to do it than to struggle or not be able to do something you want.”

And life proved me right, because her job forced her to learn how to use a computer. Then, when I got married and moved in with @elviguitarra, she was forced to use a cell phone.

The first thing I had to do was teach her not to get overwhelmed by technology. She had to learn step by step, little by little, each of the applications and options that each system has. It's impossible to learn everything in a day, much less with just theory.

Technology is learned through practice, not from manuals.

With the computer, she first had to learn how to use it, where everything was; and then learn how to save, play, copy, use Word, Excel, and other applications. But she had to sit down and do it herself, initially under my supervision and guidance.

What I advise everyone who is starting out (especially older people, since children and teenagers were born immersed in new technology) is to try to navigate and discover things for themselves. Computing (both on desktop computers and cell phones) is designed nowadays so that you don't need to think much; it's intuitive. The only thing you have to do is read carefully, because it always explains what each thing is for.

Of course, there will come a time when you get stuck and don't know what to do. That's when you should ask for help, and more than having the problem solved for you, what you should ask for is to be shown how to solve it yourself; that way, you can learn and apply this to any other similar problem.

Yes, it's easier to have everything done for you, but the only way to overcome your fear of technology is by mastering it. And, friends, everyone can do it.

Lo que nos pregunta @joanstewart ya lo viví con mi mamá. Mi mamá siempre estuvo temerosa de las nuevas tecnologías, en especial el teléfono celular y a la computadora.
Nunca estuvo negada a utilizarlas, sino negada a aprender a usarlas. Decía que para eso, me tenía a mí.

Pero un buen día le dije “mami yo no siempre voy a estar a tu lado para hacer las cosas por tí. En algún momento en el trabajo o en la casa, vas a tener que empezar usarlas por ti misma y es mejor que aprendas a hacerlo, a que pases trabajo o no puedas realizar algo que quieres.”
Y la vida demostró que tenía razón, ya que por su trabajo, estuvo obligada a aprender a utilizar la computadora. Luego, cuando me casé y me fui a vivir con @elviguitarra, estuvo obligada a utilizar el celular.

Lo primero que tuve que hacer fue enseñarla a no atormentarse con la tecnología. Debía aprender paso a paso, poco a poco cada una de las aplicaciones y opciones que tiene cada sistema. Es imposible aprenderlo todo de un día y mucho menos solo con teoría.
La tecnología se aprende en la práctica, no en los manuales.
Con la computadora, primero tenía que aprender a manejarla, a saber dónde estaba cada cosa; y luego aprender a cómo guardar, a reproducir, a copiar, a utilizar el Word, excel y demás aplicaciones.
Pero tuvo que sentarse y hacerlo por ella misma, bajo mi supervisión y guía en un inicio.

Lo que le aconsejo, a cada persona que está comenzando (sobre todo a las personas mayores ya que los niños y adolescentes ya nacieron inmersos en la nueva tecnología), es que traten de navegar y descubrir las cosas por sí mismos.
La informática (tanto en la computadora de escritorio como en los celulares) hoy en día está hecha para que no necesites pensar mucho, sino que sea de forma intuitiva. Lo único que hay que hacer es leer bien, porque siempre se dice para qué es cada cosa.

Por supuesto, llegará un momento en que se traben y no sepan qué hacer. Es en ese entonces deben pedir ayuda y, más que solucionarles el problema, lo que tienen que pedir es que le enseñen a cómo solucionarlo ustedes mismos; para de ese modo, aprender ustedes y esto aplicárselo a cualquier otro problema similar.
Sí, es más fácil que se lo hagan todo, pero la única forma de perderle el miedo a la tecnología, es dominándola. Y, amigos, todos pueden hacerlo.
