Silence
The weekend that had just ended was the quietest in a long time. It was my third consecutive Friday working the night on-call shift, and when I got out on Saturday it felt as though most people in the streets had gone on vacation to another country.
I was so tired that I spent the whole day dozing off, until I finally ate at night. After that, my wife and I sat down to watch the last episodes we still had pending of True Detective (first season). What a show !
Sunday was a special day. It felt as if the same sequence from Saturday was repeating itself, but so much silence around me pushed me to go out and look for some kind of salvation for the weekend. I asked my wife if she wanted to go with me to look at the sea for a while, and maybe also go to the theater. There had been a play premiering for several days, but for different reasons we hadn’t been able to go.
Happily, she answered that of course she did. In less than half an hour we were ready to head out. What a way to change the energy of the moment. What had been a typical depressing Sunday turned into a festive Saturday.
The sun over the bay was delicious. Normally I hide under the shade to avoid being melted by its rays, but that day I felt that my skin appreciated that small sun bath. From there we went to a theater called El Cabildo. It was my first time attending a serious theatrical production. I remember that the name of the play included Penelope, but I don’t recall the rest of the title. I think it was something Greek, mixed with African roots.
The story was apparently very clear, but most of the time my mind went blank. I know I need to dedicate more time to these kinds of things. In any case, I liked it a lot. The actresses were incredible in their performances. They made me want to come back very soon for another premiere. After that, night had fully taken over. But at least, out of that whole weekend, it no longer felt as bleak as it had at the beginning.
