Five Minute Freewrite: One Minute Left
Jane is a brilliant student. She usually comes first in her class on every semester. Many have come to associate the first position with her. She usually a quiet and unassuming person. She minds her books because she knows her roots; she comes from a poor home and reckons that the best way to escape poverty is coming out with a good result.
She is now in her penultimate class and many expects her to continue to churn out good results. This semester Jane suffered a big setback. Her mum took ill and she had to leave school for a month to attend to her.
When she came back to school most courses had gone far and she started playing the catch up game. But this approach did not work as exams appeared to have come too sudden for her. She could not read and prepare well for the exams.
In her final papers she had one minute left to write three questions. That was of course a difficult task. She couldn't answer the required questions and so failed when the result came out. This however came as a surprise to many who had known her to be an 'A student '. But those close to her already knew why. Her absence for a pretty long time from school had affected her performance.
