📷 Along the Old Trade Route into Spring
Hello dear friends,
The past few weeks have been pretty tough on us/me. I already touched on this in my previous blog post, “Lost What Had In Me 2026.” But life goes on for us here, so this year I once again took advantage of the first rays of sunshine and warmer temperatures to give my Stevens MTB a good ride. It’s become something of a tradition for me to take one of my first rides along the old trade route through the Spessart, the so-called Eselsweg (=donkey's way). Especially when the deciduous trees are still bare, this MTB trail has a very special charm for me. The Henneburg near Stadtprozelten is no longer on the Eselsweg. For me, it’s simply the destination I get to enjoy just before I arrive, and which I’ve already featured here on this blog. But the view is always beautiful.

Hallo liebe Freunde,
Ich hatte es bereits in meinem vorigen Blogbeitrag "Lost What Had In Me 2026" angerissen.
I stopped at a place that I found particularly inspiring and thought about my loved ones. A few tears were shed in the process. But that’s actually very healing for me..
🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄
Located near Dammbach in the heart of the Spessart region is the Hotel Oberschnorrhof, a popular destination with great hiking trails—and mountain bike trails—in the immediate vicinity. I visited this spot again this year because I enjoyed it so much last year when I was there for the first time. I think the photos clearly show why that is.
🚴🚴🚴🚴
Most of the Eselsweg trail runs through the forest. This more open stretch is therefore different from the rest of the hike and is always particularly beautiful to me.
🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄
Unfortunately, there has been extensive tree-cutting near this beautiful spot above Wildensee. The good news is that nature recovers from this very quickly.
🚴🚴🚴🚴
So it’s better to cheer up quickly and take another 15-minute break in the warm spring sunshine above Neuenbuch.
🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄
As mentioned at the beginning, the final stop on the tour is the Henneburg in Stadtprozelten, which I reached from the back side through the woods.
🚴🚴🚴🚴
From up here—in Bavaria—you have a good view of the other side of the Main, the left bank. Down there is Mondfeld, which is located in Baden-Württemberg.
🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄
I often take the Main River ferry between Mondfeld and Stadtprozelten. But this time, I used the lock at Faulbach to cross the Main.
🚴🚴🚴🚴
I hope you enjoyed my short trip report and the photos. There’s more to come. I’ve been out on my bike quite a bit these past few days—not just to take my mind off things. See you later... ;-)
🌄 🕊 🕊 🌄

Thank you very much :-)
Nice ride in a beautiful area!
Riding alone can give you time to clear your thoughts. Good to read that it brought you some relief.
I completely agree with you. Cycling always clears my head. For me, it’s better than any form of meditation

I loved the photos. Those views are beautiful, especially the one with the bench and the shadow… there’s something there that tells me you’ll be fine.

Thank you very much for your kind words. That helps too...
Lovely pictures, keep riding I really think it's good for mind and soul.
Are the trails there single trails only or some technical terrain as well? Next month I'm going to Germany (Bad Bentheim) or a one week holiday and for the first time I will bring my MTB with me in hope for some cool trails.
I just checked, it's over 400km from where I live so it's a bit far for a one week holiday 😅

So the Eselsweg is manageable for me too, even though I’ve got neither the nerve nor the technical skills. But there are also bike parks and trails in the Spessart and here where I live that I could never ride down. ;-) I’d just break my neck. So yes, there are some very challenging routes here too.
Excellent bicycle trail through wonderful forest and nice nature!
(I regret for your loved ones, I can touch your feelings…while stopping at the place!)
The river view is picturesque. The castle is really beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thx dear @tangmo ;-)
You're welcome! ;)
