“This is very unusual,” everyone in town says. “It's not normal to have so much rain in Andalusia.” It's been raining in Spain for several weeks now, and it's raining in Andalusia. In the north, it's snowing heavily. Some cities have been cut off by flooding and snowfall. This is my first winter in Spain, so I don't have any previous references. My neighbors tell me that it hasn't rained this much in over ten years. It feels very humid outside and here at home. The windows are wet in the morning, and when you touch the clothes you're going to wear, they feel damp and cold.

Everything is new to me: the rain that lasts for hours, the strong wind that moves the avocado trees at the entrance to the house, that persistent buzzing sound, the plant pots and chairs overturned on the floor. I had never experienced anything like this before. Since we are close to the sea, when it stops raining, you can still feel the humidity outside and inside the house, even though all the windows are closed. I feel like having some tea or hot chocolate. I want to be close to the heater, well wrapped up, on the sofa, in bed. We all ask ourselves, "When will the rain and wind go away? This has been a very long visit. Two days ago, storm Leonardo left, and yesterday storm Marta arrived. We don't want any more wet and cold visits 😬.

“Esto es muy raro”, dicen todos en el pueblo”. “No es normal tanta lluvia en Andalucía”. Desde hace varias semanas llueve en España, llueve en Andalucía. En el norte está nevando muy fuerte. Algunas ciudades han quedado incomunicadas por las inundaciones y las nevadas. Este es mi primer invierno en España, no tengo referentes anteriores. Los vecinos me dicen que hacía más de diez años que no llovía tanto. Se siente mucha humedad allá afuera y aquí en casa. Las ventanas amanecen mojadas, cuando tocas la ropa que te vas a poner se siente húmeda, fría.

Para mí todo es novedad, la lluvia por tantas horas, el viento fuerte que mueve los árboles de aguacate que están en la entrada de la casa, ese zumbido persistente que se oye, los materos y las sillas volcadas en el suelo. No había vivido algo parecido. Como estamos cerca del mar, cuando deja de llover de todas maneras se siente la humedad afuera y adentro de la casa, aunque todas las ventanas están cerradas. Me apetece un té o chocolate caliente. Quiero estar cerca de la calefacción, bien abrigada, en el sofa, en la cama. Todos nos preguntamos “¿Cuándo se irá la lluvia y el viento? Esta ha sido una visita muy larga. Hace dos días se fue la tormenta Leonardo y ayer llegó la tormenta Marta. Ya no queremos más visitas húmedas y frías 😬.
