SUN-SATIONAL
Winter aloes are blooming and Spring apricots are blossoming. It's an absolute mess of seasons. But the birds are loving it. The frosty air is filled with summer birdsong - the insistent call of hatchlings as well as the mating call of technicoloured males - a proverbial orchestra of blissfully confused twittering. My favourite of the birds is the brightly coloured sunbirds, and we have a variety. The double breasted sunbird seems oblivious of the approaching snow as he calls shrilly to any potential feathered female.
The glittering green, red and blue darts from flower to flower. Suddenly he stops, wings frantically vibrating as he flashes bright yellow feathers to impress a wife. The sunbirds are the epitomy of joy and perserverance.
May this little double breasted sunbird bring warmth for those buttoning the hatches for the freezing winter ahead as well as hope to those embracing a delicious summer. Wherever you are in the world. Snow or sunshine. Let's celebrate with all creation for this SMaP 119 Free Theme and thank you @nelinoeva for your initiative! A wonderful weekend to all, whichever season you find yourself in.

The operative word being productive 😉
very much so....
It must really confusing with the seasons. But your choice for entry is just spot on. Such a beauty. 🙂
Very confusing. And quite concerning because where does that leave our veggie gardens and fruit trees when Spring really arrives
love the sunbirds we have five different species but not this nice combination of colors. good luck.😊
Really? I'm quite curious about the colouring? Our female sunbirds are shades of yellowish-brown but the males are always brightly coloured
Lovely pictures of the little double collared sunbird and it's my favorite singer. So funny, as I also got him on camera today, but I have not yet transferred the photos to my PC.

For such a tiny guy he has a big presence! I can hear him singing wherever I am around the homestead. Can't wait to see your sunbird shots
They reckon he is the smallest of the sunbird species in SA and the Malachite is the biggest.
He is also the best singer of all of the sunbirds.
I will do a post soon !LOL
