Kindness is an important virtue that everyone should have. It is very necessary that we extend kindness to ourselves and people around us. Both the person giving the kindness and the person receiving the act will have a soft handing in their life. Most times you only extend a hand of kindness to people around you, and we neglect ourselves. You need to be kind to yourself. Kindness is showing empathy and compassion towards others.

Kindness is one act I love and admire so much; a little act of kindness can brighten and change someone's life. I have come to observe something: the majority of us fail to be kind to ourselves. Just because life has not really been fair to us, we have become tough on ourselves. We go as far as to try to take our lives. We fail to understand that before you extend a hand of kindness to someone else, you must be kind to yourself. How can you give someone what you don’t have? That is why the Hive Ghana community came up with this prompt: How can we be kinder to ourselves?

Seeing this week's prompts, I have promised myself that I will be kinder to myself; these are the steps I will put into consideration.

Firstly, self-compassion: I tell myself this year I deserve to be loved. You see the kindness I give to people outside; I will return it to myself. I promise myself this year that I will never judge myself no matter what will be the case because I am a human; I will make mistakes, and I will be so gentle to myself.

Forgiving myself: I have made up my mind this year to let go of my past mistakes that keep hurting me. Forgiving myself is the best thing I will do for myself this year. The most important thing is learning from my mistakes; dwelling in my past will keep hurting me.

Celebrating every little goal I was able to achieve, no matter how small the goal may be, I must get myself a gift to appreciate myself.

I promise myself that I will take care of my physical health: I will take care of myself and eat

Well, exercise in general – I will practise self-care and be kind to myself.

I promise to be patient with myself and be contented with what I have; after all, growth takes time. There is no need to pressurise myself. I will never criticise myself no matter what; rather, I will use kind words to encourage myself.

We should always show kindness to people; also, we should be kinder to ourselves.
