New Project - Paint by Numbers Battleship

Got the idea to do paint by numbers from @fieryfootprints and his paint by numbers posts. You should check them out. He has been doing a nice one of a night in Japan with a castle and mountain. Really neat.
Anyway, it looks like a good way to slow down and do something different. So I ordered a Military USS Battleship kit. Never done one before. Figured it was time to try.
I need something that isn't reading, studying or writing. That's most of what I do. Work toward my degree, LI posts, blog posts, commenting and other business stuff. It's all words and screens and mental effort. My brain needs a break from that sometimes.
The idea is to work on hand eye coordination while doing something completely different. Some small brushes, some paint, and tiny numbered sections. Focus without pressure, using it as a time to relax. I plan to put on some meditative music, slow down and do something with my hands that doesn't involve a keyboard or a phone.
When it's done I'm going to hang it in my office / ham shack. Battleship with some fighter and bomber planes on the wall feels right for that space. It's military themed and personal. Something I actually made instead of just bought. Kind of fits with other stuff I have around the space. Things I earned and didn't just buy somewhere you know what I mean.
If I like doing it I'll probably do more. Plenty of military themed kits out there. Could end up with a whole collection eventually. Or I could hate it and this will be the only one. Either way I'm trying something new.
Anyone else do paint by numbers? Worth the time or just frustrating? I know my wife used to do it and loved it before her hands got arthritic.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

Nice image I hope that you will like it. I am still quite surprised how many different sellers of paint by numbers there are. Even just in Lithuania I have bought sets from a few different sellers.
Yeah, I was suprised how many there were on Amazon just for beginners.
I hope you enjoy it. I know first hand what it means to have some distraction, for an hour or two. I usually create art, or use my sewing machine to make bags or something.
Are we going to get some post about what you do?
Yeah, I plan to do like @fieryfootprints and post progressing updates of the painting.
Yes a distraction is a nice thing. I have spent most of this morning so far following up with prospects, reading and writing a response to a case study for my class, and working on a paper. I need hobbies to distract as it can get monotonous.
I've never done anything like that before. Sounds fun!
We will see. It will be relaxing and fun, or a pain in the ass.
That look so beautiful. I hope that you will enjoy and having a good time coloring it.
!PIZZA
Yeah, I hope so too.
That is pretty cool! Best of luck to you on that! I've actually been talking to a lot of people lately who have taken up cross stitching to keep their mind sharp and their hands busy.
I've been seeing a lot of that and knitting.
Paint by numbers? I'll look into that; it might be useful for my daughter. She's an excellent artist and loves to draw. When the mind cannot achieve calm or focus, is the best way to distract it? Walk? Go for a walk (anywhere will do). It will help to calm your mind a little.
Yeah, she should give itt a try, it wouldn't hurt. I need to get my walking going regularly again. I am too sporadic with it.
Oh wow, that takes me back. I used to always get a paint by numbers kit each Christmas as a kid! Things we make really take more value to us as we age I find!
Looking forward to seeing it Joe.
Thanks, I plan to share progress as I paint it.
Excellent, look forward to it
oh, I don't know. As shaky jake as my hands are these days, that painting may look atrocious.
hehe you will be fine, just take it slow and steady (he says as if I could do it ! )
