Grandma's Ghost
This world is lonely, I'm just 16years old and in my heart, I feel I have a world just for me and my pet. I am the only person on this California street, Jubal thought as he walks to his grandmother's tomb to pay his usual weekend visit he named his pet Mosko, he bearly makes new friends since his grandmother passed on.
Jubal's parents loved him but he was fond of his grandmother who cuddle him when he was sad, and she allowed him to sleep on her bed. David and Anna were the names of Jubal's parents. They enrolled him in one of the best schools in the community. Jubal's mum called out to him, your breakfast is ready and it's time for school, I will be waiting outside to drop you at school.
It was break hour and some children were playing and eating but Jubal was a quiet and reserved child, he had a secluded place to eat and watch movies but something was strange about his quiet place and even his two friends in class could notice him, he is always sad when he arrived at school in the morning but after breakfast hour he becomes excited as if the world gold was his garden.
One day he went to sleep on his grandma's bed and he had a dream where his grandma appeared in his dream and warned him not to go to school that day and he woke up screaming. What happened? You are screaming loud this mid-night, what is the dream all about his mum asked. I saw grandma and she said I shouldn't go to school today but his father replied to him, okay. I want you to read your Bible and enjoy your bed.
It was morning and his parent had arguments in the bedroom about him going to school or not. Mum, I will not go to school and his mum replied it's okay, I will drive into your school premises and inform your principal while going to work. Your meal is on the table eat and go back to bed, She waved at her son as she leave.
When his parent was home and seated for dinner eating, Jubal had no appetite to eat so his Dad asked him what the problem could be. Jubal replied I miss grandma. Dad, mum, Can I tell you a secret? Yes, they replied. Grandma always appear to me afar on a student sit out but any time I run to meet her, she suddenly vanishes out of my sight, I can only watch her from a distance as she waved me back. His mum gasp and walk into her room, David took Jubal to his room but Jubal insisted to sleep in grandma's room.
Mr David went to the sitting room and turn on his tv. Jubal school Principal was interviewed by the pressman about the incidents that happen today, she said a tempest wind came around 10 am and pull off the principal office roof and cut some of the branches of the Christmas tree in the school garden.
Mr David called out to his wife Anna immediately and told her about the news, often time his parent mate him there waiting for them to pick him up home.
His parent the next morning prayed and told Jubal to be more careful where he seats during the school break hours and his parent started to believe his ghost story. As usual, they dropped him in school and left.
It was usual times after they rang the school bell, he went to see his grandma and unknown to him his friends followed him after 15 minutes. His grandmother Zarah appeared to him and waved at him, He waves back many times as his friend tried to know who he was waving at, his friends couldn't believe it so they came to him and one of his closet friends Shama said to Jubal, who are you waving at? No one is at the sit-out, Jubal replied, It's my grandma I'm waving at her, she is right there seated under the almond tree. They laughed at him and mocked him, one of his friends said you can't see a ghost because they are spirits and if it's true why are you here and waving at her here at a distance let's go closer and show us where she is at the sit-out. He felt embarrassed as they laugh at him it seems the world is lonely and only my cat understands me, I only could see and wave to her, he walk away sadly full of sad thoughts.
His parent came and saw how sad he was asked, Jubal told them his friends mocked him but his parent understood him and told him life is not about what people see but is about what you see, feel and believe, they all went home happy.

3 commentsThis is a story with a lot of sentimental strength, @danladi. Many people refer to experiences like Jubal has with his grandmother. No one can say for sure that these experiences are not possible. Thank you for writing this story for The Ink Well, We hope you will comment on at least two of the other stories.

Such fear, such intimacy, such revelations for a young boy. Many a time, people get confused at your behaviour because they don't understand you.
This is such an African tale. The spirits of our loved ones are believed to be of assistant where necessary.
Greatly told story.
