Hola, amigos. Como faltan horas para finalizar este año 2025, para recibir el año 2026 quiero hablarles de los Rituales para recibir el año nuevo.

Los rituales que realizamos para la espera del año nuevo nos ofrecen la posibilidad de tener esperanza y de renovarnos; además, su único objetivo es atraer la prosperidad, la salud, el amor, la abundancia, la buena fortuna, viajes y la felicidad para el próximo año; bueno, esas son creencias. Les cuento, amigos, algunos rituales que hacía en años anteriores en esta fecha tan especial. Una de las cosas que hacía era vestirme con ropa interior amarilla, ya que se decía que traía buena suerte, y mantuve esta creencia durante mucho tiempo. También me ponía ropa nueva para recibir el año. Otra cosa que hacía era cenar en familia unas horas antes. Además, acordábamos el color de la ropa; ese ritual lo hicimos durante varios años, tanto así que a veces repetíamos los colores.

The rituals we perform while waiting for the new year offer us the possibility of hope and renewal. Furthermore, their sole purpose is to attract prosperity, health, love, abundance, good fortune, travel, and happiness for the coming year. Well, those are beliefs. Let me tell you, friends, about some rituals I used to perform on this special date in previous years. One of the things I did was wear yellow underwear, as it was said to bring good luck, and I held on to this belief for a long time. I also wore new clothes to welcome the new year. Another thing I did was have dinner with my family a few hours before midnight. We also agreed on the color of our clothes; we did this ritual for several years, so much so that we sometimes repeated the colors.

Además, la mesa la decorábamos con torta, golosinas, hallacas, frutas y no podían faltar las famosas lentejas. Les cuento que mi hermana mayor nos daba una cucharada de lentejas al terminar el año, lo que simboliza abundancia. Aún lo hacemos en casa. En la mesa, las frutas que colocábamos en la mesa; no podían faltar mandarinas y uvas; estas últimas eran imprescindibles porque comíamos 12 uvas antes de que sonaran las doce campanadas para atraer prosperidad. A las mandarinas les retiraba la cáscara, me comía la fruta y me impregnaba las manos con la piel de la mandarina para llenarme de su fragancia, y esto lo hacemos para atraer fortuna. Hacíamos todo esto cada año.

In addition, we decorated the table with cake, sweets, hallacas, fruit, and, of course, the famous lentils. My older sister would give us a spoonful of lentils at the end of the year, which symbolizes abundance. We still do this at home. On the table, we placed fruit, including mandarins and grapes, which were essential because we ate 12 grapes before the clock struck midnight to attract prosperity. I would peel the tangerines, eat the fruit, and rub the peel on my hands to fill myself with its fragrance, which we do to attract good fortune. We did all this every year.

Ahora, después de la muerte de mi hijo, mi vida ha cambiado y hago cosas distintas. En lugar de preparar la cena, empezamos a hacer almuerzos porque luego teníamos que ir al parque cementerio a llevar flores y quedarnos allí hasta tarde. Sin embargo, estos últimos dos años el parque cementerio cierra a las seis de la tarde debido a la seguridad de las personas. Así que regreso a casa y a eso de las ocho de la noche me cambio de ropa para recibir el año, y lo mejor de todo es que volvimos a retomar la cena; me gusta porque aquí nos reunimos todos y damos gracias por los alimentos que nos regalan ese día; también seguimos con esa tradición de comer una cucharada de lenteja. Now, after my son's death, my life has changed and I do different things. Instead of preparing dinner, we started making lunches because we had to go to the cemetery park to bring flowers and stay there until late. However, for the last two years, the cemetery park closes at 6 p.m. for security reasons. So I go home and at around 8 p.m. I change my clothes to welcome in the new year, and best of all, we've gone back to having dinner; I like it because we all get together and give thanks for the food we are given that day; we also continue with the tradition of eating a spoonful of lentils.
