Venus flytrap (Dionaea)
Hello dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you to my new post and hope you had a day full of interesting experiences! In this article, I would like to talk a little about nature and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
This plant is also known as the Venus flytrap or scientifically Dionaea and originally comes from North America where it is native to the states of North and South Carolina and it can now be found almost everywhere in the world. In nature, it has adapted well in the course of evolution and have some interesting properties and one of the most interesting characteristics is the unique mechanisms with which the plant is able to catch living beings and reacts to touches and is impressed by the speed with which it snaps. Although it has no sensory organs, it uses small hairs with which it notices touches and reacts to electrical impulses and analyzes exactly how it strikes best and in research it was found that it reacts to two impulses within 30 seconds and then strikes the trap and even with individual touches, the mechanism is triggered but it takes longer to close the leaves. For several hundred years, people have been enthusiastic about this mechanism and is also considered one of the fastest plants that is mainly eating small insects such as mosquitoes, flies, beetles, spiders or ants and then with the help of various enzymes, within two weeks are the insects digested except for indigestible parts of the insect. It is also interesting that it has a kind of sensor with which the plant can detect high temperatures and warn right in time and especially in nature this is of great importance and it is no wonder that the plant impresses numerous people to this day. The botanical name is associated with Greek mythology and comes from the Greek goddess Dione who is also known as the mother of the goddess of love Venus and the plant itself is also often regarded as a magical plant as well as a symbol of speed or perseverance. When it comes to proper care, it is very demanding and it sometimes happens that the leaves turn black and here there is often too little light to cause and you should make sure to keep it away from heat sources such as heaters and also a too cool location too can have a negative effect on growth. Too much water can harm the plant also, but the medium should not dry out and it can be classified as more intensive in care and is recommended for anyone looking for a slightly different plant that already has a long history behind it.
Thanks a lot for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
