I sigh again without worries, while the breeze tousles my gray hair as if it were a whirlwind. Everything seems normal, with the usual routine of any other weekday, until the silence becomes heavy and the devastating loneliness of my existence feels deeper and deeper. I am grateful for the good memories that enriched my life; they are my solace. I regret the bad ones, although I rarely touch the wounds, because reopening them would only hurt me more. It has not stopped being complicated since he is no longer here.

— Why did you leave me alone? — I asked him as I looked at the hollows in the tree. The past is sometimes unbearably urgent, while the present turns into a sharp prick, stuck in my feet like a stake that keeps me still.

I supposed that if he could speak he would say: "Fate forced me to leave you and I had to obey." But I don't want to believe it was like that. After this long cold month, all I want is to hide under his skin, feel his warmth, and fall asleep peacefully.

— It was unbearably cold! — I shouted after coughing, remembering how I trembled those days, as if I had been inside a frozen fridge. Reality is harsher than it seems, and the winter season feels increasingly spooky since he left.

Supuse que si él pudiera hablar me diría: "El destino me obligó a abandonarte y tuve que obedecer". Pero no quiero creer que fuera así. Después de este largo mes frío, lo único que quiero es esconderme bajo su piel, sentir su calor y dormirme apaciblemente.

— ¡Hizo un frío infernal! —le grité tras toser, recordando como temblaba en esos días, como si hubiera estado dentro de una nevera helada. La realidad es más dura de lo que parece, y la temporada de invierno me parece cada vez más espeluznante desde que él se fue.

Una de mis manos acarició lu urna. Esta vez, no sentí tristeza como si me fuera imposible dejarlo ir de una vez y por todas. —Mi amor —susurré en ese dulce sueño, sonriendo como si nunca se hubiera marchado. —¿Te gusta mi nuevo vestido? —le pregunté, ansiando no volver a despertar.

Su presencia, sin embargo, se vuelve cada vez más tenue, quizás por los rayos del sol que me nublan la vista. A medida que pasa el tiempo, me doy cuenta de que voy olvidando detalles de su rostro. Eso me duele mucho.

—¡Abuelita! — el grito repentino de nuestra nieta me sorprendió. Su ligereza y belleza me recuerdan tanto a ti, como si fuera tu propia reencarnación. Mi corazón se agita cada vez que la veo.

La dulce niña corre en mi dirección. La abrazo con fuerza y la beso. Ella, ya es alta para sus seis años. No pudo conocer a su abuelo materno, pero siempre oye sus historias e incluso lo menciona con cariño, como si lo hubiera conocido estando vivo.

Ha sido un viaje largo el de hoy. Regresé a mi casa descalza, con mi nieta y mi hija a cada lado mío, y una sonrisa genuina, porque aunque mi alma esté triste, sé que la promesa que él me hizo de permanecer siempre conmigo, no fueron simples palabras vacías.
