The information presented in this article is more or less a transcript of Brother Eli Sariano's video "Old Path" where he teaches about two important questions that every Christian must come to terms with: What is the true religion according to the Bible, and How can we say that religion is good and pure?

It was my first time watching Bro. Sariano's video on "The Old Path" and it amazes me with how incredibly basic it is. But it is incredibly useful. I usually get so caught up in things, but his analysis is thorough, concise, and extremely instructive.

His analysis is founded in the Bible, and he never fails to put it into context and draw a valid analogy from the text.

The question he addresses in the video is that of true religion and true worship.

What is true worship, and how does it relate to true religion?

Bro. Sariano offers that true worship is to worship God in spirit and in truth and that consists of true religion. Based on the Bible religion means worship, a way of worshiping or serving God or a deity. He further explained that the word religion is called "Treskia" in Greek, which means religious worship or ceremonial observance.

Quoting the book of James chapter 1 verse 26, Brother Sariano demonstrated how true worship is related to true religion. The scripture found in that verse reads:

"If any man among you seemed to be religious and the bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his own heart this man's religion is vain"

The above Bible verse revealed to us that true religion is based on our conduct, which includes our words, and how we relate to other people. If you are indulged in religion but do not train your tongue in the way you speak, if speak carelessly, speak hatred, or speak bad things against people then your religion is nothing but vain. This means that there is a good religion and there is a vain religion.

True religion is that done through worship in true service to God which is taught in the Church of God in the Bible. Explaining further, Bro. Sariano explains that when the Church of God came into being, it arose out of the need of those who worshipped God in a way that pleased God.

We cannot agree less with what he says, for true religion is founded on proper love for God and His people. God is the First and Only God and He deserves our worship. True religion is based on the genuine and pure love that a believer possesses for God. We cannot worship God with loose manners. That is what the Apostle Paul means to tell Timothy in the book of First Timothy chapter 3 verse 15.
"But if I tarry long that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God which is the Church of the Living God the pillar and ground of the truth".

There is a true church in the Bible the Church of God where people are instructed on the things that they must do, the things that they should not do, and the things that they should teach their children. This true church is called the church of God. True religion is ordained by God and not by man. That's why the Apostle Paul says if I tarry long that thou mayest know how to behave thyself in the house of God or the Church of God.

The teachings on how to behave, how to worship, how to walk, how to live, and how to deal with people are the foundation teachings in the Church of God as recorded in the Bible. However, Today"s region is composed of those who are not concerned about the things of God. They want to find what they can do to make money and to be popular.

Religion is all about worshiping God. The next thing to look into is how to worship God.

In dealing with the above, Bro. Sariano explained reading from the Book of John chapter 4, verses 23 and 24: "But the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit, and in truth".

It is clear the religion being taught in the Church of God is to worship the father or God in spirit and in truth.

That is the true worship to worship God in His spirit and in truth and that consists of True Religion. Remember the meaning of religion is worshiping God. Idolatry which is worshiping an animal or a bird or a snake is worshiping a false god not the true God of the Bible, and if that is the kind of worship that you are doing, you are serving or worshiping the creature more than the creator, and it's something that God hates, evil in the sight of God.
Romans chapter 1, verse 25 states as followed: "Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator who is blessed forever amen".

Those who worship the creature are living in a lie, and God is never pleased with them. We must worship the Creator, not the creature.

Romans chapter 1, verse 23 further States;
"And change the glory of The Incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man and to birds and forefooted beasts and creeping things".
Anyone who does these things belong to a false or erroneous religion because the true religion or true worship is to worship only the Creator, not the creature. Worshiping other gods especially creatures is an abomination before God and the effect of that act can bring curses upon any that worship those other gods because the Creator is the only one that can bring blessings on us.

Bottom line

Remember that religion means worshipping the true God and the worship of God is to worship God in spirit and in truth and that consists of True Religion.
The true Church of God is where people are taught how to conduct themselves, especially in the church. One of the key areas of conduct is to mind how we use our tongues.

A religion that is not true in its teaching and is not worshiping God in spirit and in truth, and instead is worshiping some creature or animals is a false religion.
