Historic and tourist siteLa Candelaria
Hello friends of the Woldmappin community, my name is Jairo and I am from Venezuela. Here is my first post of many that I will publish, as I really love traveling and taking photos of the places I visit to keep them in my personal memories, but on this occasion I will share some reviews and experiences.
Truly, as a migrant, I have had many experiences for which I am very grateful, and being one has allowed me to meet people and discover places and cultures that I did not know until I decided to leave my country, Venezuela.
I hope you enjoy this post
¿Have you ever been to a place so small but so full of so many beautiful and important things at the same time?
Well, there is, and that place is La Candelaria in Bogotá, Colombia, known as the historic center of this city, since this capital was founded there in 1538 by the Spaniard Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada.
When I emigrated from Venezuela, I went to Bogotá, and life gradually led me to live for almost six years in this beautiful place, La Candelaria, known as the tourist destination par excellence, where, surrounded by history, cobblestone streets, and many tourists, I have felt at home.
Here we show you its streets and some of its houses.
Many of these houses are over 400 years old.
Photos of streets and houses
Due to the appeal of this area, many artists and muralists have come to this tourist destination to display their art on many houses and main streets in this town.
Here we can see houses painted with beautiful murals that give a more striking touch to this place. Wherever you go, you can appreciate the street art that contrasts with the colonialism of the place.
In this small town, we can also find a variety of restaurants, hostels, museums (such as the Fernando Botero Museum), and more than 16 Catholic churches, as Colombia is one of the countries where this religion is most prevalent.
Here in La Candelaria, there is also Plaza Bolivar, an iconic place in this capital city, as it is home to the Cathedral of Bogotá, the Palacio de Nariño (the presidential residence), the mayor's office, and the congress.

Also in this beautiful part of La Candelaria is the Church of Our Lady of Monserrate, located on one of the eastern hills of the capital, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the entire city.

It is moving to see how these houses, which date back more than 400 years, are protected and cared for in this place, where figures such as Simon Bolivar, Manuela Sain, and even Policarpa Salavarrieta (la pola), who was known as a heroine of Colombian independence, lived.

I feel privileged to live in a place so rich in everything, where the past, present, and future coexist. I hope you enjoyed this brief overview of this beautiful place, which is diverse and has something for everyone.
And when you come to Colombia, specifically to Bogotá, don't hesitate to visit La Candelaria.
Thank you for reading.
