Off to the Movies - September 12, 2025 @goldenoakfarm
I was very tired and sore when I woke up at 4:30AM. That would teach me to binge watch videos into the night. I got my post up and cleaned up the kitchen, then rested.
Next I got both dehydrators unloaded. That took a while and the standing got me. So I was not ready for the day when my helper friend arrived at 8AM. He was doing chores, errands and cleaning on Friday. He also washed all the dehydrator screens and some of the trays before he left. That was supposed to be my job for the day.
I was still not ready for the day when Tom and my #3 intern arrived at 9AM.
My #3 intern went out and got the wood into the shed while I got a shower and got ready. Now we can get the last load delivered and he will put it in the shed next week.
We went out and got the equipment to move mulch from the barn. He wanted to drive the truck again.
I’ve been parking the truck in the pig area and that’s full of ruts from the pigs. He wanted to try to get the truck out of there. (He’s working on getting his driving permit.) In the end, I got the truck turned around and he was able to get it out and backed up to the mulch pile so we could load the totes of mulch. Then he drove to the house, I backed the truck in and we unloaded. Then he drove the truck back up into the pig area.
He got the mulch spread and the walkway was done. Now I just have to plant and mulch the 2 rows.
I got ready to go to the movies and made some lunch. My friend arrived a little early and walked around looking at the gardens.
We headed over to the theaters to see Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. I’m afraid I was too tired to take in all of the film. My friend, and my sister who was watching it at the same time out in New Mexico, both thought there was an awful lot going on. My sister felt the scenes weren’t tied smoothly together, and a lot of loose ends were left. I’m afraid I dozed through a couple areas and was distracted by the booming coming from the next theater over. I plan to get the DVD and watch it undistracted.
It was a lovely day and when we got back to the farm, we harvested some Swiss chard, bell peppers, Walla onions, basil, and a zucchini for her. I harvested 3 more baseball bats and a regular zucchini and the next to last melon. Then we feasted on the Anne raspberries.
I was still very sore and tired and headed to bed at 7:30PM.
On Saturday I hope to get out in the New Herb garden and finish at least 1 row. It’s to be another nice day.

5 commentsDownton Abbey must have a lot going on, I hope the DVD viewing gives a better experience without much distractions
You are doing a great job in the garden dear friend
i have never watched this movie so can't judge, but if you wake up at 4,30am pretty normal to be tired
Sounds like a full and tiring day, but also rewarding with all the farm work and harvest done. Glad you still got to enjoy the movie before resting.
