SHAPING ME
Our habits are usually formed from the things we hear, see and feel. It starts with just one attempt and before we know it, we are already interested in doing that particular thing continuously which we then accept as an habit. Over the years, we form different habits both intentionally and unconsciously. Habits that are formed intentionally are usually the hardest because we saw the need for it and we try to work towards getting such habits but those habits that are formed unconsciously are habits that comes easy to us. It feels more like a routine habit.
Habits are formed when our mentality towards certain things change. Our mindsets about things in general, plays a major role in the habits we sustain. Until our mindsets change about certain things, we can’t form new habits or we can’t control the habits we form because we welcome just anything whether or not they are helpful to us and those around us. For me, I have seen the need to change so many habits that I have cultivated over the years and I have also lost some good habits that I’m still trying to learn back.
One particular habit that I can remember that has changed my life is the habit of doing things well whether or not I have something in it for me. Growing up, I saw how my dad always put his heart to anything he does even when they pay him penny for it. He is more concerned about making sure he gives his best and also so that nothing goes wrong and seeing that, I knew that was exactly what I wanted for myself. I didn’t really put in so much energy to developing this habit because I have always seen my dad doing it and it was easy to develop it.
The only part that gave me a tough time and is still giving me a hard time is the part of being honest in every thing I do. Not being scared of losing opportunities because I did the right thing. I have tried it a few times and the truth is, I was given reasons to regret my decisions at that point but then as long as it was the right thing to do, I don’t see any reason why I should feel bad. If there is anyone to feel bad, it should be the person doing the wrong thing.
Being diligent in whatever I do and trying to also be honest with myself and others has changed my life in so many ways. Yes, sometimes the people around me make me feel like I’m doing too much but I try to just stick to doing what is right without them making me start becoming like them. I know to us, it’s fine to be wrong sometimes but I don’t want that to be my mind behind doing things and this habit of mine has made me stand out in so many ways and I’m grateful to God for blessing me with the people around me that has helped and are helping me to stand strong always.
This is my response to the Iucontest on A habit that changed my life. Feel free to join.
Thank you for reading through. 💜

8 commentsdoing everything well, seems like a perfectionist? happy me
Yes, that’s what it seems like. But that’s not exactly where the idea is coming from.
A lot of people don’t do their jobs well because they think they don’t get enough from it. So depending on what they stand to gain, that’s what determines how well they do their jobs. I hope you get it now.
