I never thought cybersecurity would keep me up at night until I almost lost access to everything. It was a Sunday afternoon when I received an email from my bank.
It looked legitimate. It had the right logo, the correct format, and an urgent message about a suspicious login from a country I didn't recognize. I clicked. I entered my credentials. And, luckily, something stopped me before I pressed the last button. I called the bank. They confirmed it was a scam.

Since then, I've become obsessed with this topic. I repeat it whenever I can to my friends, my partner, and my children. Online scams are no longer those poorly written emails from a Nigerian or Arab prince. Now they're sophisticated. Now they play on fear, on urgency. They tell you that your account will be blocked, that a fraudulent charge has been made, that you've received a huge inheritance from an uncle in Europe, or something like that. And in that moment of panic or lust, we let our guard down.

The first thing I learned is that no legitimate entity will ever ask for your passwords via email or text message. No one: not your bank, not Hive administrators. No reputable platform does.

Passwords are like the keys to your house. You don't leave them under the doormat, you don't give them to the first person who rings the doorbell. In the digital world, handing over your password is the same.

With Hive, this is even more critical. If you lose your account keys, you lose them forever. There's no "I forgot my password" button you can click.

There's no customer service that will give them back: neither the keys nor the funds. That's why I keep my keys in a physical place, in a notebook that's in a locked box. It sounds excessive, but it's common sense.

Protecting my family's personal information also means talking to them. I've had uncomfortable conversations with my children about what they post on social media. I explain to them that a photo of their room, with the window in the background, could give someone clues about where we live. That sharing your real-time location isn't something to take lightly. The digital world keeps a record of everything.

I've installed a password manager at home. Now we use different passwords for each service—long and complex ones that we don't have to memorize. And we've activated two-step verification on everything that allows it. That second step, that code you receive on your phone, is the extra security measure that can save you.

Privacy is no longer an abstract concept or something we only saw in movies. It's the new physical space. It's your front door, your garden fence. And it deserves the same attention, the same healthy distrust towards strangers who ring the doorbell.

Nunca pensé que la ciberseguridad fuera un tema que me quitaría el sueño hasta que casi pierdo el acceso a todo. Fue un domingo por la tarde cuando recibí un correo electrónico de mi banco.
Parecía legítimo. Tenía el logotipo correcto, el formato correcto y un mensaje urgente sobre un inicio de sesión sospechoso desde un país que no reconozco. Hice clic. Introduje mis credenciales. Y, por suerte, algo me hizo parar antes de pulsar el último botón. Llamé al banco por teléfono. Me confirmaron que era una estafa.

Desde entonces, me he vuelto un pesada con este tema. Lo repito siempre que puedo a mis amigos, a mi pareja y a mis hijos. Las estafas online ya no son esos correos mal escritos de un príncipe nigeriano o árabe. Ahora son sofisticadas. Ahora juegan con el miedo, con la urgencia. Te dicen que tu cuenta será bloqueada, que han hecho un cargo fraudulento, que has recibido una grandísima herencia de un tío en Europa o algo así. Y en ese momento de pánico o lujuria, bajamos la guardia.

Lo primero que aprendí es que nadie legítimo te va a pedir tus contraseñas por correo o por mensaje. Nadie: ni las personas de tu banco, ni los administradores de Hive. Ninguna plataforma seria lo hace.
Las contraseñas son como las llaves de tu casa. No las dejas bajo el felpudo, no se las das al primero que llama al timbre. En el mundo digital, entregar tu contraseña es lo mismo.

Con Hive, esto es aún más crítico. Si pierdes las llaves de tu cuenta, la pierdes para siempre. No hay un botón de "he olvidado mi contraseña" al que puedas llamar.
No hay servicio de atención al cliente que te las devuelva: ni las llaves, ni los fondos. Por eso guardo mis llaves en un lugar físico, en una libreta que está en una caja con candado. Parece exagerado, pero es sentido común.

Proteger la información personal de mi familia también significa hablar con ellos. Con mis hijos, he tenido conversaciones incómodas sobre lo que publican en redes. Les explico que una foto de su habitación, con el fondo de la ventana, puede dar pistas a alguien sobre dónde vivimos. Que compartir la ubicación en tiempo real no es una tontería. Que el mundo digital guarda memoria de todo.

He instalado un gestor de contraseñas en casa. Ahora usamos contraseñas diferentes para cada servicio, largas y complejas, que no tenemos que memorizar. Y hemos activado la verificación en dos pasos en todo lo que lo permite. Ese segundo paso, ese código que te llega al móvil, es el cerrojo extra que puede salvarte.

La privacidad ya no es un concepto abstracto o de eso que veíamos en las películas. Es el nuevo espacio físico. Es la puerta de tu casa, la valla de tu jardín. Y merece la misma atención, la misma desconfianza saludable hacia los extraños que llaman al timbre
