Barcelona and its wonders (Part 9)
Here’s a must-see in Barcelona: the famous Pedrera. We had already visited it a few years ago, but this time the schedule was so packed that we just admired it from the outside.
Also known as Casa Milà, it’s one of Gaudí’s masterpieces — the same brilliant (and slightly eccentric) architect behind the Sagrada Família. Built in the early 20th century, the Pedrera was truly an architectural UFO for its time.
Its wavy façade gives the impression that the building is moving, like a stone wave. The wrought-iron balconies resemble seaweed or marine plants — a nod to Gaudí’s obsession with nature.
Its nickname, “La Pedrera”, literally means “the stone quarry” — a name the people of Barcelona gave it because of its rough, sculpted look, as if the building had been carved directly from rock.
Voici un incontournable de Barcelone : la fameuse Pedrera. On l’avait déjà visitée il y a quelques années, mais cette fois, le programme était tellement chargé que l’on s’est contentés de l’admirer de l’extérieur.
Aussi appelée Casa Milà, c’est l’un des chefs-d’œuvre de Gaudí, le même architecte génial (et un peu fou) derrière la Sagrada Família.
Construite au début du XXème siècle, la Pedrera était vraiment un ovni architectural pour son époque.
Sa façade tout en courbes ondulées donne l’impression que le bâtiment bouge, comme une vague de pierre. Les balcons en fer forgé évoquent des algues ou des plantes marines, un clin d’œil à la passion de Gaudí pour la nature.
Son surnom, “La Pedrera”, signifie littéralement “la carrière de pierre” — un nom que les Barcelonais lui ont donné à cause de son allure brute, comme si l’immeuble avait été sculpté directement dans la roche.
