Es inevitable mirar esta pequeña planta de flores amarillas destellando bajo el sol. Supe su nombre científico por la curiodidad de saber cómo se llama. Yo la conozco por Marilope.

En otros paises es conocida popularmente como Clavel de oro o Yellow Alder, una especie que no solo cautiva por su belleza efímera, sino también por sus propiedades medicinales profundamente arraigadas en la tradición herbolaria . 

Las flores de la Marilope son un espectáculo de la naturaleza. De un amarillo intenso, se abren al amanecer y se cierran al atardecer, como si bailaran con la luz del sol . Sus pétalos, delicados pero resistentes, contrastan con el verde oscuro de sus hojas como dibujadas, creando una armonía visual que atrae no solo a los humanos, sino también a polinizadores como abejas y mariposas.

Lo más fascinante de la flor de la marilope es su fugacidad: cada flor dura apenas un día, pero la planta produce tantas que el arbusto parece estar siempre igual. Este ciclo efímero nos recuerda la fragilidad y la renovación constante de la vida. 

Es una de las hierbas amargas antiparasitarias. Increible que detrás de tanta belleza se esconda un poder semejante. Se utiliza tanto para beber en infusiones de flores y retoños, asi como uso tópico y baños de asiento.

También se emplea como expectorante, para facilitar la menstruación y calmar los dolores asociados a ella y para mejorar la digestión . Una infusión de 5 o 6 flores en agua caliente basta para crear un remedio casero que alivia el dolor de cabeza y los trastornos gastrointestinales . 

Esta planta es también un ejemplo de sobrevivencia. Crece en terrenos áridos esta por ejemplo está bien cuidada pero nació casualmente entre los escombros.

La Turnera angustifolia, o Marilope, es una joya herbolarea que combina belleza y utilidad. Sus flores, efímeras pero radiantes, son un recordatorio de la generosidad de la naturaleza, mientras que sus propiedades medicinales la convierten en un aliado para la salud.

Esta especie nos invita a reconsiderar su importancia, no solo como adorno, sino como un legado cultural y terapéutico que merece ser preservado y estudiado.

It’s impossible not to notice this little plant with its bright yellow flowers shimmering under the sun. This is Turnera angustifolia#:~:text=Expectorantes%2C%20facilita%20la%20menstruaci%C3%B3n%2C%20disminuye,los%20dolores%2C%20mejora%20la%20digesti%C3%B3n.). I learned its scientific name out of curiosity, but I’ve always known it as Marilope.

In other countries, it’s popularly called Golden Clove or Yellow Alder, a species that captivates not only with its ephemeral beauty but also with its deep-rooted medicinal properties in herbal traditions.

The flowers of Marilope are a spectacle of nature. A vibrant yellow, they open at dawn and close at dusk, as if dancing with the sunlight. Their petals, delicate yet resilient, contrast with the dark green of their intricately shaped leaves, creating a visual harmony that attracts not only humans but also pollinators like bees and butterflies.

The most fascinating thing about the Marilope flower is its fleeting nature: each bloom lasts barely a day, but the plant produces so many that the bush always appears full. This ephemeral cycle reminds us of life’s fragility and constant renewal.

It’s one of the bitter antiparasitic herbs. Incredible that behind such beauty lies such power. It’s used both as an infusion (made from flowers and young shoots) and topically in sitz baths.

It’s also used as an expectorant, to ease menstruation and relieve associated pain, as well as to improve digestion. A simple homemade remedy—steeping 5 or 6 flowers in hot water—can soothe headaches and gastrointestinal discomfort.

This plant is also a survivor. It thrives in arid soil—this one, for example, is well cared for, but it sprouted spontaneously among rubble.

Turnera angustifolia, or Marilope, is a herbal treasure that combines beauty and utility. Its flowers, fleeting yet radiant, are a reminder of nature’s generosity, while its medicinal properties make it a health ally.
