Oh boy, here comes another 'day in the life of Jongo' posts!

This one is going to be a whole lot of mushy stuff. Mainly because of the time of the year it is, but also, some news on the family front....

So August 2nd was a few days ago, and this is one of the most important days of the calendar year for yours truly. Why may you ask?

Two reasons....

9 years ago on that date, I married the woman of my dreams...

That's my wife and she would KILL me if she knew I put her picture up online but hey....It's been a while since @thedaolson came around these parts lol

But also, 23 years ago on August 2nd my oldest son was born.

This is him last year, he's a cool guy lol

So yeah, August 2nd is a big deal for me personally and it's a date I will never forget. Wedding anniversary and birth of my first born.

And yesterday evening, the family got together to celebrate these two events over a fantastic dinner. Brazilian barbecue to be exact :)

The night was going great until my son dropped a bomb on me.....

"Dad, I'm moving!"

O.K., I thought, not a huge deal....But then it was where to.

"Starting in Saskatchewan and then to Ontario and hopefully ending up in Nova Scotia"

That was his plan lol

Now for those that may not understand Canadian geography he's essentially moving from the Canadian Rockies in the west, all the way to the Atlantic ocean on the east. Pretty much 5000 kilometres away, give or take. I'm not sure why this is a huge surprise to me, heck I left my home much earlier than him in my own life....

But to move across the country. Wow.

I'm excited for him, I really am. But something truly hit me yesterday and I just had to write about it....

My son is officially, grown up!

That's a big thing to say to yourself when you have kids, because they will always be those 'bundles of joy' we raised when we had no idea how to do it lol But here I was, giving my kid an extra long hug without trying to shed a tear.

Not sad because of anything bad, just sad that I won't be able to call him up next week and see if he wants to meet up for lunch. Sad that I will always question if I did a good enough job to raise him right. He grew up with parents that weren't together, and I'm so thankful for his mom, she did a great job with him. And the husband she married, took on the role of step father like a champ and treated my kid as his own.

But there's always those questions of self doubt....Did I do enough?

I am praying for him. And his journey. I love this kid more than he will know, and I'm so happy to see him become truly, his own man. But dang....

Why do they have to grow up so quick?

Parents of new children, let me tell you this, because you have heard it a million times before....

They grow up QUICK! Like, it's another level of time warping or something. One second they are being pushed in a stroller, the next they are starting a life of their own. It's crazy.

But I thank God for my son. And can't wait to see the life he builds for himself this year and moving forward!
