acostumbrado y le hace las ya repetidas preguntas y obtiene las previsibles respuestas.
-Sí, soy feliz, pero no como antes pensaba que era serlo.

Se acomoda en su sillón y escucha la historia.
-Mis padres, como inmigrantes, tuvieron que trabajar mucho para salir adelante en un país cuya cultura y forma de vida era diferente.
Desde niños los ayudábamos a ellos y ya adolescentes estos fueron dándonos una especie de herencia, al colocarnos al frente del negocio que deseáramos.
Uno de mis hermanos fundó una venta de artículos de ferretería, otro de telas, la hermana menor se dedicó a la quincallería y yo a los zapatos.
Fui el ultimo en decidirme por algún negocio y tal vez eso marcó mi actitud ante el entorno en el que vivía.
La situación se puso difícil y para solventarla tuve que dedicarme a vender yo mismo mis zapatos de casa en casa, a crédito y con facilidades.
Cualquier cosa que hubiera tenido que hacer la hubiera hecho, ya que si algo heredé de mis progenitores fue la perseverancia.
Con algunos sinsabores propios de los negocios callejeros superé la crisis pero no la adicción al trabajo.
Era el primero que llegaba y el último que se iba.
Mi felicidad giraba en torno a tener algo que hacer.
Por años estuve sordo a los consejos de mis hermanos y padres sobre mi actitud anormal, para ellos, en torno a laborar como si en eso se me fuera la vida.
Las relaciones sentimentales duraderas brillaron por su ausencia al no poder competir en tiempo y dedicación con mi estilo de vida.
-Date tiempo para ti.
Me recomendaban y yo respondía.
-Soy feliz. ¿Qué hay de malo en eso?
-Estás perdiendo tu juventud sin necesidad. - me decía el hermano mayor.
-Tu negocio es prospero y por unas horas que tomes para divertirte, compartir con la familia, conseguir amigos y dedicarle mas tiempo a tu vida sentimental no se irá a la quiebra este. – me comentaba el que tenía la fabrica de textiles cuando me visitaba.
Mi hermana era más trágica.
-Si sigues así no tendrás herederos, porque las mujeres no queremos a quienes nos desatienden y ni las locas querrán vivir contigo.
El destino en ocasiones es tramposo.
Una vez llegó a mi negocio un señor de mediana edad, aspecto de campesino y cara de buena gente.
Me preguntó si vendía al mayor ya que tenía una amiga interesada en revender entre sus conocidos.
Le respondí que sí, que me dijera donde vivía para visitarla.
No lo hizo sino que a los días se apareció con ella.
La mujer, mucho mas joven que él no parecía ser su hija, mucho menos su pareja, pero tenia aspecto de estar pasando un mal momento.
Le recomendé algunos modelos y compró una docena, la cual canceló el mencionado señor.
A la semana siguiente volvieron y noté que la cara de ella había cambiado.
Ya había trazos de felicidad en su rostro.
Esta vez llevó tres pares y nuevamente quien los canceló fue él.
Antes de marcharse, di rienda suelta a mi curiosidad y le pregunté.
-¿Es su hija’
Me miró con cierta candidez y respondió.
-No, es alguien a quien conocí hace un par de semanas.
En lugar de acabar con mis interrogantes estas crecieron y le volví a preguntar.
-¿Por qué entonces le paga sus deudas?
-Porque es tan hija de Dios como yo y por lo tanto es mi hermana.
Asocié la respuesta a alguna acción de misericordia y lo dejé partir.
Por esas vueltas de la vida nos encontramos a los meses en la calle.
La mujer había logrado solidificar su negocio y se había convertido en un muy buen cliente, pero nunca más regresó con él.
El iba caminando y detuve mi auto.
-¿Lo llevo?
-Si es su gusto, encantado de aceptar su bendición.
Ha sido el viaje más enriquecedor de mi vida.
En pocas palabras aquel hombre hizo cambiar mi visión de lo que me rodeaba.
No pagaba ninguna penitencia, como supuse en un primer momento, ni poseía tanta fortuna como para regalar el dinero, pero vivía sin grandes afanes la vida de una forma tan perfecta que por momentos pensé en dejarlo todo e imitarlo.
vEs como cuando alguien te confiesa tener el secreto de la eterna felicidad y te lo prueba dándote la forma para lograrlo.
Todo resultó tal como me lo dijo y desde ese momento mi vida dio un vuelco de trescientos sesenta grados.
-¿Se llamaba Airton? –le pregunta el rey.
-Si. ¿Lo conoce?
-No, pero últimamente he escuchado hablar mucho sobre él. ¿Sabe donde vive?
-No, nunca mas supe de su existencia y la señora de los zapatos tampoco.
