So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun that we did not want it to end. We are currently on the second topic for this week, which is “LEARNING/UNLEARNING”.

But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last topic, which was “A SIMPLE EDUCATION”.

This topic was geared toward each member of the community, telling us their thoughts on the educational system of today and its highly competitive nature. The school environment should be conducive for everyone, not just physically, but also mentally. If students have to put themselves through intense stress just to make their grades, then it can’t be all that conducive, can it?

We got to see that indeed, the main focus of a school should be imparting knowledge to the students, from academic to financial and social, the necessary knowledge that is needed to survive in today’s world. However, when everything is made to be a competition, and classmates are turned into rivals, it stops being about learning and becomes more about besting each other. And that’s only toxic.

For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w207e3 tag. And with the number of wonderful posts out there, it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. While students put themselves through the most stressful situations just to make good grades, it can’t really be considered a victory when the price that gets paid is in physical and mental health, and other lasting damages. The best way to tackle this is by finding a healthy balance.

For this author, he told us that modern education is happening in an era of distraction, but then, in a system where schools set really high standards for admission and the demands are unduly high, students will have to go to extreme lengths just to get in and stay there. Such activities always end up leaving a mark.
