Inseparable Arepa and Coffee

Hello friends, today is a special day. Congratulations to all the workers in the world, and I hope you enjoy your rest. On this peaceful day I woke up with the desire to enjoy a delicious breakfast. As a good Venezuelan, I can not miss a morning coffee and a delicious arepa stuffed with cheese and butter very hot, one of the many traditions that we maintain in many Venezuelan homes for years.

Arepa y Café Inseparables

Hola amigos, hoy es un día especial. Felicitaciones a todos los trabajadores del mundo, y espero disfruten de su descanso. En este día tan apacible me levanté con ganas de saborear un rico desayuno. Como buena venezolana, no me puede faltar un cafecito mañanero y una rica arepa rellena con queso y mantequilla bien calentita, unas de las tantas tradiciones que mantenemos en muchos hogares venezolanos desde hace años.

In times past, to make the arepas we used white corn, it was washed very well and then mounted for hours in a kerosene stove, which was the one that existed in many homes, after softening it was passed through a mill to obtain the dough, and then, we ended up kneading it until we obtained a moldable paste. Then we made our arepas and mounted them in a very hot pudding, turned them over to seal the sides and left them until they were golden brown, the way of making them has not changed much.

En tiempos pasados, para hacer las arepas se utilizaba el maíz blanco se lavaba muy bien y luego se montaba por horas en una cocina de querosén, que era la que existía en muchos hogares, luego de ablandarse se pasaba por un molino para obtener la masa, y luego, terminábamos amasándola hasta obtener una pasta moldeable. Luego hacíamos nuestras arepas y se montaba en un budare bien caliente, se le daba la vuelta para sellar los lados y dejábamos hasta que se doraban, en la forma de hacerla no ha cambiado mucho.

Cuando nuestro país atravesó la crisis económica más fuerte, tuvimos que volver atrás y hubo momentos que compramos el maíz y hacer todo ese proceso hasta vernos en la necesidad de comprar el molino, que a pesar de los años todavía se encuentra en los comercios sin ninguna variación.

Today, with technology, everything is easier and faster. There are pre-cooked flours that, in their packages, already have instructions on how to make arepas. Undoubtedly we could say that they do not taste the same, but they are still delicious when we use the budare, or improvise one exclusively for them. For this breakfast I bring you an arepita stuffed and accompanied by a negrito.

Ingredients:

• 1 ½ cup of water
• 1 ½ cup and a half of flour
• ½ teaspoon of salt.

Hoy, con la tecnología, todo es más fácil y rápido. Existen harinas precocidas que, en sus empaques, ya traen las instrucciones de cómo hacer las arepas. Sin duda podríamos decir que no saben igual, pero igual son ricas, cuando utilizamos el budare, o improvisamos uno exclusivamente para ellas. Para este desayuno les traigo una arepita rellena y acompañada de un negrito.

Ingredientes:

• 1 ½ taza de agua
• 1 ½ taza y media de harina
• ½ cucharadita de sal.

Preparation:

In a bowl place the water and add the salt, little by little add the precooked flour and knead until it is smooth and moldable. You can add more water or flour depending on your taste.

En un bol colocamos el agua y añadimos la sal, poco a poco vamos agregando la harina precocida y vamos amasando hasta que quede suave y moldeable. Se puede agregar más agua o harina dependiendo del gusto de cada quien.

Then we assemble the budare once it is hot, we make the arepa, we take a portion of dough, the amount you want, you are making the shape with the palms of the hand, we place it in the pan or budare once it is separated from the pan, we turn it over, we wait until it browns on both sides, remove it and fill it with whatever you like.

Luego montamos al budare una vez que este caliente, hacemos la arepa tomamos una porción de masa, la cantidad que desees, ya vas haciendo la forma con las palmas de la mano, colocamos en el sartén o budare una vez que se separa del sartén, le damos vuelta, esperamos hasta que dore por los dos lados, retiramos y rellenamos con lo que te guste.
