Nuclear War: A Scenario
I completed another book recently. This one was called Nuclear War: A Scenario and was written by author Annie Jacobsen. I saw it recommended on Social Media and it sounded pretty interesting. It also sounded very relevant today with everything that's going on in the world, unfortunately.
The doomsday clock was set to 85 seconds on January of this year. Its the closest the clock has ever been to midnight in history. Its crazy to think that we are actually closer to nuclear holocaust then we were at any point during the cold war. Its not an end all, be all, metric but its a data point to the craziness of the world today. The change of the time closer to midnight was even before this whole issue in Iran as well...
Initially it crossed my mind that the book might help me prepare for a worst case scenario. The idea of becoming a doomsday prepper seems more and more appealing to me these days. In all seriousness I really just read the book for fun.
Anyway, the book poses a scenario in which a nuclear attack is made on the United States and what follows is a minute by minute (in some cases a second by second) account of what happens next. The book outlines how the government and military would react and counter the attack, and the steps and processes for dealing with the situation as it rapidly unfolds. The book also interweaves information about some of the science and history of nuclear and military technology.
The author complied the information used in the scario through interviews and declassified documents from top military and civilian experts on the subject as well as various organizations and institutes related to the subject.
I found the book to be very interesting overall amd completed it in one week. It also helped me understand a lot of the military defense systems currently being used in the war today, the acronyms and defense systems and all of that.
All in i did really enjoy the book. I wouldn't say that it was an incredible read but it was interesting and very accessible.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments. See you next time.

17 commentsI read a book a while ago about a EMP attack and that was really interesting. It was fiction, but it got me thinking about what I might do if that happened. I've actually spent a lot of time considering it since then and you are right, being a prepper kind of has a certain appeal right now!
Yeah the book talked about an EMP attack also and basically how that is almost just as damaging/devastating as a nuclear attack. I actually tried to find that old Doomsday Prepper show to watch but none of the streaming sites that I have carry it lol.
I'd probably trust some of the stuff on YouTube more than the reality TV stuff that was out there. I know what you are talking about though.
Haha yeah I hear you. But the show was just so entertaining 😂
Thanks for the support!
I like that even though you read this book for fun, you ended up learning a lot of things from it. Especially in the aspect of military defense systems, real expert infos and the acronyms. Honestly, no knowledge is wasted these days. It will surely come in handy someday, or can I soon with doomsday clock and with everything happening recently.
The author did well by using real information from experts. I'll check out this book. With all the things you learned from this book, will it change how you prep? Greetings 🙋

Hopefully i dont have to use any of the knowledge learned lol. It actually didn't discuss how an individual can prepare themselves for such an attack of after. It was more just everyone is screwed lol

Seems the kind of book I will like well in these days can seem not so much a utopian scenario unfortunately I hope to find it translated in my language ❤️
Definitely not a utopia scenario that's for sure lol
Nuclear is both so devastating and so advanced for us humans. Its odd times man, but i believe in the good, too much going on for most of us to truly grasp. So many moving parts to it all.
Glad it was a decent read my bro, keep beastin sir, ❤️.

BEER.Curious, how does Jacobsen’s portrayal of Cold War-era contingency planning differ from more recent geopolitical crisis literature?
I'm not fully up to date on the recent geopolitical crisis literature. Can you give me an example?
