Jane sat at the dining table, patiently waiting for her husband, Richard to come home.
She looked at the clock, it was 10pm. Jane was tired of waiting for him like this almost every night. Richard had developed a habit of coming home late from work.
The worst part is that most times, he would come back drunk.

Richard finally got back home that night. He looked unhappy as usual.

"Why do you keep doing this? Why do you keep coming home this late?" Jane asked.

Richard paused for a moment, looked at her, and just kept quiet like he did care what she said.

"Answer me! I cook for you, I sit at the dining table waiting for you for hours, and you always treat me like nothing" Jane screamed in anger and frustration.

"I'm too tired for this" Richard said as he made his way to the bedroom.

Their marriage has been under severe strain. Richard spent most of his time at work, and after work he would spend time with friends at the bar.

One night, Richard went to the bar after work as usual, in his attempt to avoid his wife. While he sipped a glass of wine, he spotted a beautiful lady. He couldn't take his eyes off her. Richard was stunned by her beauty.
He decided to approach her.

"Hi, you must be new here. I'm Richard"
"Hi, I'm Tessa. Yes, I'm new here" she replied.

They got talking and they enjoyed each other's company. They kept meeting up a week later and they developed feelings for each other.
Richard was happier. He glowed more. As days went by, he fell deeper in love with Tessa, and so did she.

Jane noticed how joyful her husband had been. He still wasn't paying much attention to her but he seemed more cheerful.

Jane has the special ability to read minds. She hid it from everyone because it would make them cautious around her. She read Richard's mind and she knew that there was another lady in the picture. This wasn't something new. It had happened before.
Twice in the past, Richard found love in other ladies. But suddenly, those ladies were no longer interested and even hated Richard. It was so strange to him. He always felt his wife had a hand in it because somehow she always knew when he was having an affair and who it was. No matter how hard Richard tried to hide his extramarital affairs from his wife, Jane always found out.

She never really confirmed nor denied having a hand in anything. One fateful night. Richard went to meet Tessa at her apartment as usual. As they laid down in silence, enjoying each other's company, Tessa spoke.

"I made a new friend today. She seems really nice. She even took me out for lunch" Tessa said.

"Oh really? How did you meet her and what's her name?" Richard asked.

"I met her at the gym. She was really friendly to me. I think she said her name was Jane." Tessa replied.

Richard became concerned. He began to wonder if it was indeed his wife.

"Can you describe how she looks?" Richard asked.

Tessa described her and the description perfectly fit his wife.

Richard jumped up in concern.

"That's my wife" he said.
"How's that possible? You didn't tell me you were married." Tessa replied.
"I am married but I'm miserable. I want to leave her" Richard said.
"Please don't talk to or meet with her anymore. She's not a nice person" Richard replied.

Richard rushed home to confront his wife.

A few minutes later he was home to see his wife dining.

"You're home earlier than usual" Jane said with a smirk on her face.

"Stay away from her" Richard said.

"I don't know what you're talking about. What's the matter?" Jane replied, feigning ignorance.

"I know you met with Tessa. This is what you do. I know you're going to do something to her. You make my life miserable. Just stay away from her" Richard said, raising his voice.

"So you were having an affair. You think you can cheat on me and be happy?" Jane said.

"I want a divorce, and I'm serious this time. I can't do this anymore. It's driving me crazy. I'm not happy being with you" Richard yelled.

"You and I are forever no matter what. You can't leave me. I won't allow it" Jane replied in a dangerous tone.

Richard and Tessa were madly in love. All his attempts to leave Jane had failed. So he and Tessa decided to move away to another city to be together.

On the day they planned to travel, Tessa was at her home packing her things when she heard a knock on her door. As soon as she opened it, Jane walked in.
Before Tessa could do or say anything, Jane took control of her mind with her powers. Tessa's mind was no longer hers. Tessa lost her free will. Jane now controlled her. Jane could make Tessa do her bidding.

"Oh well, you win some, you lose some" Jane said as she left Tessa's apartment.

Richard and Tessa finally ran away to another city. Tessa pretended as if nothing was wrong, but little did he know that that was no longer the Tessa he knew. It was Tessa under Jane's control.
