My First Painting
For this painting assignment, we were told to paint a portrait of our favorite musician. I didn’t even have to think twice — I chose Rema, because his music, energy, and style inspire me deeply. He's not just a singer, but a symbol of youth, confidence, and creativity.
🖊️ The Sketch phase
I began by carefully observing several reference images of Rema. I wanted to capture his unique features — especially his expressive eyes and signature hairstyle. Using a light pencil, I did a soft sketch, focusing mainly on the proportions of his face, the placement of his eyes, nose, and lips, and the overall shape of his hair. This was a crucial step because getting the sketch right makes the painting smoother later on.
🖌️ The Painting phase
Once I was satisfied with the sketch, I moved on to painting. I started with the base skin tone, slowly building up layers to add depth and shadows to his face. I paid close attention to the highlights on his cheeks and the shadows around his eyes and jawline to give the portrait a three-dimensional feel.
For the eyes, I made sure to keep them sharp and detailed because they are the focal point — they hold so much emotion and intensity. His eyebrows and lips were next, where I used strong, bold colors to make them stand out.
Then I worked on his hair, using darker tones mixed with subtle highlights and texture strokes to reflect the unique pattern. I also took my time on the necklaces, trying to make them pop with that shiny, reflective look — it’s part of his signature style.
The background was painted last. I chose a smooth green gradient that contrasts with his skin tone and outfit, making the portrait stand out more.
🎯 The Final Result
Finishing this piece felt really fulfilling. It’s not just a portrait of Rema — it’s a tribute to someone who influences my creativity. I learned a lot during this process — about facial structure, skin shading, and even patience. This artwork helped me grow, and I'm proud to share it.
If you want this written in a simpler version or turned into a short speech or video script, I can help with that too!
