Mysterious Stones Found?
Walking around the fens with my grandson he came upon these intriguing stones.
I have no idea what they are but they do look man made to me?
As you can see below. There is another kind of stone material wedged in the stone?
Clue One
This is today's contribution to the Wednesday Walk #wednesdaywalk category curated by @tatoodjay and as part of the #makemesmile #smartphonephotography and phototalent category.
As you can see below there are many of these similar shaped stones. The fact that they are shaped and of a uniform size makes me think again that they are man made.
Clue Two
Clue Three
Opening the Stones
Solve the Mystery
It's fascinating to see the world through the eyes of a child. To many children everything is new and amazing.
As we get older and wrapped up in the world. The simple majesty and mystery of the world can fade into the back of the mind.
Can you help my grandson solve the mystery of the stones? And to be honest. I'd like to know what they are too 🤯😂👍

It's quite a mystery to me too. I'm hoping someone has an idea of what they are?
Top theory some kind of volcanic rock?
Something bizarre certainly!
Fossilized squid?

Well done @x-rain you solved the mystery. It had me stumped.🤯👍
I agree it is definitely a fossilised squid. Amazing.
It makes sense as this part of the country was once the seabed in the distant past.
We do find lots of sea shells and amonites here too.
Thanks for chipping in the url too. Confirms the identity. 👍
Thank you for the story and the chance to feel a winner of a quiz! 🙂
Nature is amazing especially when you have a little buddy who helps you to see things as miracles.
My pleasure x-rain and thanks again for identifying this little time travelling squid.
We are lucky to be surrounded with beautiful nature.
My grandson has a keen interest in his environment and is always finding new and exciting things.
He's a bit of a collector of all kinds of things? A bit like me with crypto! 🤦♂️😂👍
Thank you! I was like your grandson when I was a kid. I had a collection of minerals, etc. Now, like you, I collect crypto 😃
And photos 🙂
Thank you for the ecency boost! 😀
You are most welcome 👨💻👍
Wow! Well done!
What a great community we have here. Ask a question and someone will have the answer.👨💻👍
Sorry I have no idea what they are but I am intrigued to see if someone else knows what they are
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
The mystery is solved thanks to @x-rain it makes perfect sense now. 👨💻👍
I just saw that I would never have guessed that
Yep I'm as surprised as you. It's amazing what is right under our noses?
I'm pretty sure they are fossil plants of some kind. I've found them in gravel along with fossil shells. That gravel would have originated in some ancient beach of sea floor.
Update: further searching indicates they may be belemnites, which were a type of squid
Yep fossilized squid! Amazing find by my grandson. He has an eye for fossils. We find loads of these. It must have been teeming with life back then. 🤯👍
Some places are great for fossils. We used to have holidays in Dorset on the Jurassic coast. But then you can find them in gravel on your drive. Exciting to hold something that was alive millions of users ago.
Yep me too. Lyme Regis is great for fossils. When I was a kid I found a whole fish once. It was about 3 inches long and had turned to a rust coloured stone. My uncle kept it. He was a fossil collector and philatalist. Great fun.
We had some friends who would go to Walton-on-the-Naze. They would find lots of fossils there include shark teeth. When we went I found some bits of fossil whale bone. It's amazing what's out there if you look.
What an amazing find! I find loads of tubes and such in gravel in garden centres etc., they'd be fossils too, but this is quite different.
I'm not sure if I would have even thought of opening it.. Well done for trying!
Hi Anna, yep he dug this up near a lake close to the house and asked me what it was?
I had no clue but luckily the internet did what it was designed to do and x-rain identified it.
Try breaking a few of those tubes open. Who knows what you may find? 🤯👍
I sure will! Watch this space.. ha ha

It's so good to see an enquiring mind in my grandson. He's just 7 years old. 👍
Truly fascinating. 😘
