The Torii, a Japanese structure that in Shintoism marks a transition between the mundane and the sacred. For many, it represents the entrance to the afterlife; for others, it represents a tourist attraction, culture, or religion. Its Kanji characters literally mean "bird's perch" due to its architectural form.
This icon, so important to people of Japanese descent, was commissioned as part of the line of stickers given away as gifts during International Nikei Day, in the Ambassadors' Room of the Havana Libre Hotel in Havana, Cuba.
Today I want to share with you the creative process of this illustration; I hope you can appreciate it.

El Torii, una estructura japonesa que en el Sintoísmo, marca una transición entre lo mundano y lo sagrado. Para muchos, la entrada al más alla, para otros, atracción turística, cultura, religión. Sus caracteres en Kanji significan de manera literal "percha de pájaro" por su forma arquitectónica.
Este icono tan importante para los descendientes de japonés, me fue encargado como parte de la línea de stickers que se entregaron como obsequios durante el Día Internacional del Nikei, en el Salón Embajadores, del Hotel Havana Libre en la Ciudad de la Habana, Cuba.
Hoy deseo compartir con ustedes, el proceso creativo de esta ilustración, espero puedan apreciarla.

[ENG] / This illustration is entirely my own work. I didn't use any AI or other materials to create it. I only used the drawing software Clip Studio Paint and my Wacom Intuos S Ctl-4100 tablet. The English translation of the text (also completely my own) is done in Google Translate.
