Lowering our Proposal ... for the benefit of Hive
Lowering Our DHF Proposal
https://peakd.com/me/proposals/peakd
Over the last several years, the Hive ecosystem has helped us build and maintain Peak Open Projects. We are grateful for that support and for the community that makes this all possible.
Yesterday afternoon we lowered voluntarily our DHF proposal to 490 HBD/day from 630 (almost 25% slash)
This decision was not made lightly. The proposal will now not cover the entirety of our team expenses for the Peak Open Projects team, and we are letting go of someone we care about. We will absorb the gap and move forward.
We believe this is healthy for Hive long-term because the whole ecosystem is being forced to make hard choices in the current economic climate. We want Hive to exist for decades, and for all of us to build amazing tools that could one day bring millions of people. That future doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from discipline, focus, and building in a way that can sustain itself.
Not Slowing Down
We’re also planning to release more than we ever have—updates to older projects, new open-source releases, and faster iteration overall. There are now many tools and workflows available to developers that make this possible, and we intend to prove it with results.
As a reader, you should also understand that major shifts are happening in how software gets built. You should demand more than ever from development teams. The expectation now should be clear: we can do much more with even less.
We would like to hear what other projects are doing as well. What tools and practices are you using to become leaner and more fiscally responsible? Our reduction, and even our proposal at large, is a drop in the bucket if the rest of the ecosystem does not also make changes. This only has real impact if it becomes a broader shift.
But we’re optimistic. We believe Hive can absolutely rise to this moment. We believe we can do more with less. We believe we can build faster, ship better, and keep pushing this ecosystem forward. We’re in.

26 commentsI hope that other projects using DHF funding also see this. For too long, too many projects have treated the DHF as a golden goose, a guarantee, rather than genuine community support.
PeakD (and the old work you lot did on another chain) is the reason so many authors continue to publish onto the chain.
You make the best tools for the best writers, and that is something that I can support.
Letting go of team members is also something that is never easy, but we will no doubt see more of that across the workforce as technology progresses and occupations use that tech more effectively.
Thanks for everything you've done, and what you continue to do.
there had been talk about this for a bit in places but no one project was gonna make a difference... it needs to be a wave of voluntary actions... hopefully the whole community shifting the way they look at things.
Was very fun to see that on the same day we shifted our proposal (sunday) also Ecency project did the same thing and lowered theirs as well. Not sure if any other dominoes fell since then.
I happen to believe the best option is for them to figure out how to do everything they are doing and more with much less... and that may mean embracing more the modern advancements in software development. But that takes some time to figure out as well.
Best of luck to who is leaving the team, bad times require sad decisions
This says alot about the ethos of Peakd

Is there a path for profitability or would you parasite Hive forever?
despite the apparent animosity in the verbiage of the comment we are listening if you have an idea you think would be good.
The funding proposal is for open source software for Hive. However maybe you believe we should transition away from that and work on something else more profitable. would be very curious of your examples.
I'll rather speak for DHF should be for new companies and innovation, not to work as a subsidy for publically funded organizations. I would even go a step further and not just talk on financial independence but to give funds back to the DHF, inject serious capital and work as a core financieer of the community.
A great innovation from you could be done on the financial side and become a MicroStategy-like company that systematically buy Hive and make the token go up. A great goal could be for Hive debt meter to go from 25% to 15%.
well door is open IF you do come up with anything at some point feel free to share... specially if it does lead toward buying hive to help token go up.
Well you asked for a goal, I gave you one
I'm not the one taking money from DHF
Did you support the Return Proposal? Because that is the first to do to protect DHF of Exploitation.
Amazing change of topic.
So 500$ a day is not profitable for you?
Well done! You get my support!
thanks
Great transparency, appreciate the clear update on the adjusted DHF allocation.
Can we get default rewards set to power up?
And, bitchute embeds?

I like that idea
All Hive projects need funding BEYOND investors buying HIVE. Both HBD and HIVE financing is, at the bottom line, financed by demand from people buying HIVE on the exchanges. Please, figure out a financing method that is not a chair dance. I believe in PeakD, you guys have built great things, I was proudly part of the open projects for a while, but we need to move beyond speculation and into ROI. How can PeakD finance itself beyond the DHF, so that Hive itself doesn't depend on people buying HIVE on exchanges?
we are listening... share your suggestion
The only obvious thing I can think about that feels least friction is opt-in ads (sounds extremely weird but I would opt-in to help), could be a low hanging fruit
Ad revenue tends to be low for anything with under millions of visits a month, so a few other things that could help would be
(cheap) paid awards that burn HIVE, reddit style. I would burn a few fractions of HIVE to give awards to posts of comments I find valuable or highly agree with, they are almost like reactions with extra value. This is more than donation to the poster/commenter, reddit really does it well and people love it, I love it.
subscription service, I have not been active on Hive, what do people value and what could a subscription add value their experience? a subscription that gives them a few "free" awards a month to distribute already connects with the award idea.
I recognize you are more active, more experienced in every way and have been on Hive longer than I, so what are your thoughts on those?
Those feel (but may not be) to me like relatively low hanging fruits for being obvious and done and tested in other platforms (I keep thinking reddit). They can bring revenue from people spending, rather than investing, and without something along thise lines I am afraid that Hive will always be musical chairs game with people getting in and out but without an ROI.
I am actually even scared that I will miss out on a bull run if Hive has income that is not investing because the Hive will have projects with real revenue, people buying Hive to burn/spend rather than buying Hive to have more dollars.
Something like the INLEO Premium. PEAKD have more MAU than inleo so that can be a source of income.
This is good News. We need more people to do the same.
This is a very good example for others.
For clarity, the reduction is 22.2%, not almost 25%. I prefer we stick to exact numbers.
Given how much AI tooling has improved productivity in the past year, it’s reasonable that operational costs adjust accordingly.
I hope other projects will follow this tendency.
This is what leading by example looks like. 🙌
