Good day my friends here on the community.

This is the sketch I made for the SketchQuest contest of @quatro. I was just sitting here lolling, letting the pen wander without any real inspiration from the outside world. This one actually started a while ago with just the grandpa on the left, but I stopped because it felt a bit empty.

When I went back to it today, I added the granny walking right there side by side with him, but it still felt kinda meh. The loudest shape that finally pulled it all together was the massive black background I just love how drenching the blank space in total darkness transforms the whole composition.

I wanted the vibe to feel quiet and maybe a bit heavy, like a long walk where no words are needed. To give it some life, I added the birds flying around them at the last second. The lines are loose on purpose and I've really been into this "line drawing only" style lately; not everything needs to be perfect; I want the thinking process to show in it. It’s funny how adding that solid black fill makes the white figures pop and changes the entire mood from a simple doodle to something more dramatic.

Process was quick, messy, and fun, especially the part where I got to fill in all that ink. That’s my thing: make, go with the flow, edit, meh, keep what’s working and learn from mistakes. Do you guys ever start a doodle, leave it for days, and then finally figure out what it was missing?
