As humans, we are always surrounded by choices and decisions. Most of these choices are difficult and awkward, but we still have to act. So it is no surprise that decision-making is always an important aspect of our lives. It plays a vital role in our growth and our future in general.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my entrepreneurial journey, it’s that no one can make certain decisions for you. You can get advice, you can brainstorm with friends, you can even procrastinate, but at the end of the day, the choice is yours.

And we all know that decisions shape our business. The good ones bring growth and achievements, the bad ones… well, they either teach you something or cost you something, sometimes both.

Last week, I lost a healthy collaboration to ghostwrite a novel all because I couldn’t make the decision on time. At first, I thought I was too busy with some school stuff. I told myself I didn’t want to take on more work. But later, I realised I wasn’t as busy as I made myself believe. I could have managed both and still collaborated effectively. However, by the time I finally reached out, someone else had already been given the offer.

That hurt, and I spent the following two days brooding over my busyness and indecision, but it reminded me that no decision is still a decision (and obviously the worst decision), and sometimes, it costs you an opportunity you may not get back.

On the flip side, I’ve also had a time when a last-minute “yes” or "no" worked out really well. Once, I decided to join a small growth meet-up without overthinking it in the sense that I didn’t wait to re-evaluate the cost of transportation and the time required. In the end, it was a blissful moment of interaction I would never forget in a hurry. I went home with a lot of knowledge and ideas that affected me positively and have contributed to who I am today.

However, it is not all decisions that are easy to make. There are some in which we have to take risks and make a choice with uncertainty and faith. Decisions like "Is this the right time to expand my business? Is it okay to change my location? Can I sack this worker? Should I change my circle?" can be very difficult to make if the reasons aren’t very outstanding.

As a young adult, I have made many bad decisions as much as I have made the good ones, because decisions must always be made whether we like it or not. In this journey, my mum once told me, “If something isn’t a 100% YES, then it should be a NO.” It sounds a bit strict, but it’s helped me avoid half-hearted commitments that would have drained my time and energy.

There are a few tricks that help me improve in making decisions. First is having a clear vision and goal, if I know where I’m heading and my mission, I can make a choice more easily. Second is information and research. He who has acquired much information is more knowledgeable than he who is ignorant. Doing research before coming up with a decision is very important for entrepreneurs, because not all that glitters is gold, and a good risk is best taken with proper information and knowledge.

So, if a friend tries to introduce me to an online money-making opportunity, which happens frequently, I make sure to research extensively before getting involved. This has saved me from falling victim to Ponzi schemes and other internet scams.

I have also learned to trust my instincts. If something doesn’t seem right, then it requires extra scrutiny, or I let it slide for good. My instincts aren’t perfect, but they’ve saved me more than once.

Above all, I have learned to take full accountability for my choices, no passing blame and no “what ifs.” Life is full of experiences, and I’d rather learn from them, whether they hurt or not. One thing we know about decision-making is that the more we let ourselves decide, the better we get at it. Experiences will always leave us with a lesson, and we tend to improve with them.

Speaking of growth and improvement, this community just celebrated its 3rd anniversary!🥂

First, I want to say a big congratulations to the team and members who have kept this space alive and valuable for three years. Reaching 900 subscribers is no smll feat, and I’m proud to be part of a community that thrives on ideas, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit.

I appreciate the honesty about our current participation levels, it’s a reminder that even great projects go through seasons. The good news is, with our collective creativity, we can turn this into an exciting period of growth.

So in participation of the initiative proposed by the community, here are my little ideas on how the community can stimulate active participation with valuable content:

Hosting weekly initiatives with topics we could all explore and share our thoughts and ideas. This could be in the form of a call to action on certain experiences, lessons from failures, entrepreneurial hacks, and many others.

Featuring member spotlights where we highlight some authors from the entries submitted.

This is the aspect I’m most conversant with, and I believe it could boost posting and interactions within the community, as it has worked in various communities on Hive.

Como seres humanos, siempre estamos rodeados de elecciones y decisiones. La mayoría de estas elecciones son difíciles e incómodas, pero aun así tenemos que actuar. Así que no es de extrañar que la toma de decisiones sea siempre un aspecto importante de nuestras vidas. Desempeña un papel vital en nuestro crecimiento y en nuestro futuro en general. Si hay algo que he aprendido en mi viaje empresarial es que nadie puede tomar ciertas decisiones por ti. Puedes pedir consejo, puedes hacer una lluvia de ideas con tus amigos, incluso puedes posponer las cosas, pero al final la decisión es tuya.

Y todos sabemos que las decisiones dan forma a nuestro negocio. Las buenas traen crecimiento y logros, las malas... bueno, o te enseñan algo o te cuestan algo, a veces ambas cosas.

La semana pasada, perdí una saludable colaboración para escribir como fantasma una novela, todo porque no pude tomar la decisión a tiempo. Al principio, pensé que estaba demasiado ocupada con algunas cosas de la escuela. Me dije a mí misma que no quería asumir más trabajo. Pero más tarde me di cuenta de que no estaba tan ocupada como me había hecho creer. Podría haberme ocupado de ambas cosas y seguir colaborando eficazmente. Sin embargo, cuando por fin me puse en contacto, otra persona ya había recibido la oferta.

Aquello me dolió, y pasé los dos días siguientes dándole vueltas a mis ocupaciones y a mi indecisión, pero me recordó que ninguna decisión sigue siendo una decisión (y, obviamente, la peor decisión), y que a veces te cuesta una oportunidad que puede que no recuperes.

Por otro lado, también he tenido alguna ocasión en la que un "sí" o un "no" de última hora me ha salido muy bien. Una vez, decidí unirme a una pequeña reunión de crecimiento sin pensarlo demasiado, en el sentido de que no esperé a reevaluar el coste del transporte y el tiempo necesario. Al final, fue un momento feliz de interacción que nunca olvidaría. Volví a casa con muchos conocimientos e ideas que me afectaron positivamente y han contribuido a lo que soy hoy.

Sin embargo, no todas las decisiones son fáciles de tomar. Hay algunas en las que tenemos que arriesgarnos y elegir con incertidumbre y fe. Decisiones como "¿Es el momento adecuado para ampliar mi negocio? ¿Me conviene cambiar de ubicación? ¿Puedo despedir a este trabajador? ¿Debo cambiar de círculo?" pueden ser muy difíciles de tomar si las razones no son muy sobresalientes.

Como joven adulta, he tomado muchas decisiones malas tanto como buenas, porque las decisiones siempre hay que tomarlas, nos guste o no. En este viaje, mi madre me dijo una vez: "Si algo no es un SÍ al 100%, entonces debería ser un NO". Suena un poco estricto, pero me ha ayudado a evitar compromisos a medias que habrían agotado mi tiempo y mi energía.

Hay algunos trucos que me ayudan a mejorar en la toma de decisiones. El primero es tener una visión y un objetivo claros, si sé hacia dónde me dirijo y cuál es mi misión, puedo tomar una decisión más fácilmente. El segundo es la información y la investigación. El que ha adquirido mucha información tiene más conocimientos que el que es ignorante. Investigar antes de tomar una decisión es muy importante para los empresarios, porque no es oro todo lo que reluce y es mejor correr un buen riesgo con la información y los conocimientos adecuados.

Por eso, si un amigo intenta presentarme una oportunidad de ganar dinero por Internet, cosa que ocurre con frecuencia, me aseguro de investigar a fondo antes de involucrarme. Esto me ha salvado de ser víctima de esquemas Ponzi y otras estafas de Internet.

También he aprendido a confiar en mis instintos. Si algo no me parece correcto, lo examino más a fondo o lo dejo pasar para siempre. Mis instintos no son perfectos, pero me han salvado más de una vez.

Sobre todo, he aprendido a responsabilizarme plenamente de mis decisiones, sin pasar culpas ni "y si...". La vida está llena de experiencias, y prefiero aprender de ellas, me duelan o no. Una cosa que sabemos sobre la toma de decisiones es que cuanto más nos dejamos decidir, mejor se nos da. Las experiencias siempre nos dejarán una lección, y tendemos a mejorar con ellas.

Hablando de crecimiento y mejora, ¡esta comunidad acaba de celebrar su tercer aniversario!🥂

En primer lugar, quiero dar la enhorabuena al equipo y a los miembros que han mantenido este espacio vivo y valioso durante tres años. Alcanzar los 900 suscriptores no es poca cosa, y me enorgullece formar parte de una comunidad que se nutre de ideas, colaboración y espíritu emprendedor.

Agradezco la sinceridad sobre nuestros niveles actuales de participación, es un recordatorio de que incluso los grandes proyectos pasan por temporadas. La buena noticia es que, con nuestra creatividad colectiva, podemos convertir esta época en un apasionante periodo de crecimiento.

Organizar iniciativas semanales con temas que todos podríamos explorar y compartir nuestros pensamientos e ideas. Podría ser en forma de llamada a la acción sobre determinadas experiencias, lecciones de fracasos, trucos empresariales y muchos otros.

Este es el aspecto con el que estoy más familiarizado, y creo que podría impulsar la publicación y las interacciones dentro de la comunidad, ya que ha funcionado en varias comunidades en Hive.
