Sometimes it's always best to let certain things go, because trying to revisit them, trying to get back that old feeling you used to have as a kid but now as an adult, could ruin some of those childhood memories for you.

And I say this from experience because I've come to realize that it's always a fifty-fifty situation whenever I go to try something that I used to enjoy as a kid. And this could be for a lot of reasons; it could be that our taste has evolved over the years and what we used to like then is no longer something that we like now. It could also be that the only reason we liked that thing so much back then was because that was the best we had at that time, but it's been fifteen to twenty years since then, and now there are better things than those things we used to like back then.

A good example is snacks. There are snacks that I used to love as a kid that I have tried now that I'm an adult and just hate. Now it wouldn't be a problem if I just hated it and moved on, but that isn't always the case, as I find my current bad experience of that snack challenging the good experience I had all those years ago.

So it's almost like me eating that snack with hopes of reliving my childhood is somehow ruining the memories I have of the said childhood because now, rather than remember the snack for the beautiful and tasty snack that it was to me back then, that memory instead gets replaced with a much more recent one, the bad one.

The same thing happened to me a few days ago when I tried playing the Contra game. This was a video game that I played for most of my childhood. I still remember my dad coming home with the VCD and the gamepads and how excited I and my sibling were.

We would always play that game every chance we had. Well, they (my two older siblings) mostly played it while I stood at the back, crying to them to let me play.

I tried playing it recently, and the game was trash to me, made me wonder why I liked it so much back then.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson and will now let my memories be memories, and rather than revisit old things, I will rather do new things and create new memories instead.
