Attachment and love are not the same thing, or are they?

There is some form of attachment in love, but is there any form of love in attachment?

Lust is a whole different affair, it is an abrupt sense that comes in quickly and leaves just as fast. It's our unga-bunga senses taking over, like our cave-manly way of thinking and seeing if the person opposite to us is a worthy mate or not.

Attachment, however, is a tricky one. Here, when all the fun and excitement is gone, the "relationship" is gone too. Yet, it's a form of fondness that leaves a few unerasable specks behind, as the person you were so attached to rubs onto you their distinctive essence. With these people, you always have something that's in common, something that acts as the glue at first. Soon, slowly and quite unknowingly traces of those people are ingrained into our minds. Their smiles, moments of annoyance, their alluring tug, all things combined, they slowly pull you ever so close to them.

Alas, when you look back at things, that relationship which once upon a time felt so momentous, has now become so evanescent. As time passes by, the memories fade, distance increases, and then one day we are both back to having a clean slate; strangers once again.

What about love? An emotion that people tend to mix up with lust these days.

This is a tricky one; yet, I believe true love is a remedy. If it feels like a disease instead of a cure, then it's not love. That's the simple version. Of course, that doesn't mean that people who are in love don't have problems; as if they don't fight, or disagree on anything. They have just as many problems, but at the end of the day, they face those problems together, instead of running away from them.

I bring forth this topic today because of all the "failed" relationships I see all around me. Whether it's friends, acquaintances, or strangers, it seems that separation is the first thing a couple thinks about when things go wrong; instead of facing and fixing a certain issue.

Maybe it's a relationship that is only a few months in, or a few years even, relationships nowadays just aren't as resilient as they once used to be. Nowadays it's more about me, myself and I first, and you? That's for later.

I guess it's because most people these days let pride pilot their decisions, and some just care about their selfish agendas and proposals. The selfish ones would rather put themselves first while putting their partners and their opinions in last place, sometimes even fully disregarding their thoughts.

That's not how love works; love is about sacrifice, it's about understanding. You both know that this relationship will never be perfect; yet, you still choose to stick together, and make progress, one step at a time. Whether it is a business or a relationship, for it to be successful, you have to put in the effort and the time, and fair a bit of sacrifice is required as well.

The keyword, "a fair bit"...

You won't find the "magic ingredient" on your first try, you have to give it some time and have some faith in the process. But, that faith has to be present on both sides.
