On Monday, when my wife and I woke up in the morning, we realized that the air conditioner was off. At first, we thought it was a 220 V phase failure, which normally occurs where I live, usually with power outages, and the protector trips and goes into standby mode, and after a few minutes it turns back on. But this time, minutes passed and the air conditioner did not start.

So I went downstairs to check what was going on, and I saw that the circuit breaker was off. In other words, none of the lights were on, so I went to the breaker box, turned it off, and then turned it back on to see if the power was coming back on, but nothing happened. The circuit breaker was still off.

El día lunes cuando mi esposa y yo nos despertamos en la mañana nos dimos cuenta que el aire acondicionado estaba apagado, en un principio pensamos que era una falla de la fase 220 V, que normalmente ocurren por donde vivo, generalmente con bajones de corriente y el protector se dispara y queda en espera y a los minutos vuelve a prender. Pero está vez pasaba los minutos y no arrancaba el aire.

Así que bajé a revisar para ver qué es lo que pasaba, bajo y observo que el protector estaba apagado. Es decir no tenía ninguna luz encendida, entonces fuí dónde está la brekera y la baje y volví a subir a ver si llegaba corriente y nada, el protector continuaba apagado.

I went to my neighbor's house to see if they had 220 V power, so I asked him and he told me that his air conditioner was off and that he was going to flip the breaker to see if there was power. When he flipped the breaker, the protector turned on, so there was 220 V power.

I went back to the house and suspected that the protector might be damaged, so I went to get the ladder to climb up to the external unit and check the protector. I disconnected the protector by removing the input and output cables and then connected them directly to check if the protector was damaged. I turned the breaker off and on, and the air conditioner turned on. so I concluded that the protector had been damaged. I left the air conditioner on for a while to cool the house down a bit.

Fuí a casa del vecino de al lado para ver si en su casa había corriente 220 V, así que le pregunté y me dijo que tenía el aire apagado y que iba a subir el breker para ver si había corriente y cuando subió el breker el protector encendió, así que había corriente 220 V.

Regresé a la casa y ya sospechaba que pudiese ser el protector que se había dañado, así que fui a buscar la escalera para subirme hasta la unidad externa y revisar el protector, desconecté el protector retirando los cables de entrada y salida y luego los conecté directamente para verificar si el protector se había dañado, bajé y subí el breker y el aire acondicionado encendió, así que llegué a la conclusión que el protector se había dañado, dejé un rato el aire prendido para que refrescara un poco la casa.

So, I had to go buy a new 220 V cable-to-cable protector. I went straight to the place where I bought it at the beginning of the year to see if they had one, since the last one I bought was hard to find. So I went to the Costa Azul Shopping Center to the G-Tronic store, where I found the protector for $19.70, but the store had a cashback program, so I took advantage of it to continue earning points. Since the minimum to access cashback at that store was $25, I grabbed some light bulbs that we always need at home, and with that we covered the necessary amount and bought the protector.

We returned home quite relieved to have found it and at a good price, because last time we went to many stores trying to find this model at an affordable price.

Así, que me tocó ir a comprar un nuevo protector de 220 V cable a cable, me fui directamente al sitio dónde lo compré a principio de año para ver si tenían uno, ya que el último que compré me costó conseguirlo. Así que me fui al Centro Comercial Costa Azul a la tienda G-Tronic, allí estaba el protector y este costaba 19.7 $, pero la tienda tenía cashea así que aproveché de usarlo para seguir sumando puntos, como el minimo para acceder a cashea en esa tienda eran de 25$ agarré unos bombillos que siempre hacen falta en la casa y con eso cubrimos el monto necesario y compramos el protector.

Nos regresamos a la casa bastante aliviados de haberlo encontrado y a buen precio, porque la vez pasada recorrimos muchísimas tiendas tratando de encontrar este modelo a un precio accesible.

When I got home, it was already dark. So I asked my son Matías to help me by shining the flashlight on while I connected the protector. The first thing I did was set the minimum and maximum voltage clock, and then the timeout clock. Once the timers were set, I proceeded to loosen the screws that hold the cable wires in place, then I inserted the input and output cables and tightened them. I told Matías to flip the breaker, and the protector turned on the standby light bulb. I then proceeded to secure the protector to the base of the capacitor.

Cuando llegué a la casa ya estaba de noche. Así que le dije a mi hijo Matías que me ayudara a iluminarme con la linterna mientras conectaba el protector. Lo primero que hice fue graduar el reloj de mínimo y máximo voltaje, y luego el reloj de tiempo de espera, ya graduados los relojes procedí a aflojar los tornillos que sujetan los pelos de los cables y luego introduje los cables de entrada y luego los de salida y los apreté, le dije a Matías que subiera el breker y listo el protector encendió el bombillo de espera, y procedí a sujetar bien el protector de la base del condensador.
