Strategy
At first glance I felt that this card was almost useless. My thought was,"what good is the shield ability with low HP".
Nevertheless, I was going to make my first "weekly challenge" post based on this card. So I went about my first match ever using Crypt Beetle.
I fought only one match and found a great use for the giant insect.
Basically, he's bait. My battle was against a water setup, if you've played long enough I'm sure you've seen the quick hit that can be taken from the combination of "deep lurker" followed by "feasting seaweed". They both use the "opportunity" ability, leading both of them to the same target. The target, of course, being the weakest on the team. It's a usual 1-2 hit that will kill most low HP monsters.
The fact that the Crypt Beetle has low HP attracts the enemy but the small armor and shield ability keep him alive. So on the next round the fish duo have to take another swipe at the beetle.
All the while my other monsters were able to disable enough enemies to leave the "opportunity" using monsters in the front position. No longer able seek out the weaker allies. Thus leaving them to face off with my "Cursed Windeku" whose "thorns" ability makes easy work of them.
So I found that every aspect of the attributes of each card can change the direction of the match. Without the Crypt Beetle in this fight I would've lost some of my magic attackers really quickly. Possibly changing the final outcome to a loss. Check out my battle link to see how this strategy unfolded. I truly believe without the Crypt Beetle my team would've lost.
