Morning Run: Crisp-mas

We are currently experiencing issues posting images on [@strava2hive..](/@strava2hive..).Please bear with us
@steevc just finished a 12.2km run, that lasted for 72 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 939.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
If any Stravas wonder about my hashtags, they get picked up when the @strava2hive bot creates a Hive post for me. I have a load of followers over there and earn a little cryptocurrency from each post.
We were out last night at a show with several comedians at The Broadway in Letchworth. The headliner was Angela Barnes who we had seen on TV, but they were all very funny.
It was another bright morning. Strava reckons it was feeling like 0C, but I did not feel that cold. I had been thinking of heading up to Langford, but on the way I decided to go off through Clifton instead so I could mostly stick to less muddy paths.
The route goes up and down a bit, but my slowest stretches were when crossing the railway bridge. I had heard that the Flying Scotsman was passing through today, but I missed it.
I ran all the way to Samuel Whitbread school where my kids used to go before turning back. I did not see many runners out there. As I got back to the station I hit 10km and was happy to see it was under an hour. It was a nice run overall.
I had not had an email with my parkrun results, but I see there are some gaps as they said some were lost due to issues with the scanning app. I know I came 30th as I looked at the finish token.
We have been out shopping since my run. We were in Welwyn Garden City and it was not as busy as I expected. I really wonder how the shops are doing this year.
Merry Christmas and run free.

16 commentsI think starting the day with some exercise is always a good change, particularly when it is cold outside ;)
Any time is good for exercise as long as you want to do it.
This is really inspiring 🤞🏻👏👏.
If you don't mind me asking, I want to ask you, how did you build the ability to run for this long and this consistently?
I play football and can easily play a full 60 minute match, but when it comes to running on its own, I struggle a lot. I go for morning walk plus run and following this routine for over a year. But my maximum is around 1 km; after that, my breathing becomes very difficult.
The strange part is that I do not feel this way during football, only during free-running or whatever good name it has? I really want to make running a habit like this, but I find it hard to stay motivated and to push past that limit.
Any advice would mean a lot to me, as I also have an upcoming physical exam in February 2026. I have watched some YouTube recommendations butt not much of help.
I was not really a sporty person, but in my late 40s I decided I needed to get fitter and so started running. It was a long time (years) before I could run this sort of distance and my first 10km event was a big deal. If you can play a football match you must be fairly fit, but running may work different muscles. It's okay to mix up running and walking if you need to recover.
Part of my motivation is that it is my podcast listening time. I need something in my ears, but others prefer music. I know not everyone enjoys running so you could try other exercises such as cycling.
I hope your physical goes well.

Thanks for the advice. I will try my best for the run first, and hope to reach a 5km milestone at least in 2026. Thanks again!
Btw, most of the time I run x walk without any electronics other than my watch, but when I do have my phone, I, too, listen to podcasts 🤞🏻.
Thankss again!
I won't say that what works for me is right for everyone, but I think you have to build up gradually and see how it feels. You will know when you are ready to go further.

BEER.Hi @steevc! it’s lovely to see your run and your moving about town doing all the different things.
I adore all of the conversation that happens in the replies and comments of your posts. I think this is where the most fun of HIVE happens!
The conversations are the best part of Hive. We have such a diverse community around the world 🌍 so there's a nice mix of cultures.

BEER.Hello greetings steevc, If you allow me, I would like to ask you something.
So ask! 😁
Thank you,
Last year I started hive blogging and I post two or three fresh posts a week.I am not blacklisted by anyone. But recently Marky blacklisted me and he downvoted my posts.I don't understand why he is doing this to me.I have mentioned him many times to know my crime but he doesn't reply so what should I do now.🙏
I'm sorry to hear that, but I have no idea what his issue is with you and I have no influence on him. He does not always respond when people ask about it, but it may be possible to reason with him if you keep it friendly. Good luck.
