¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la escritura creativa! A pocas horas para celebrarse la navidad, me encuentro fuera de casa tomándome unos días libres. No es la primera vez que la paso alejada de mi familia, pero al menos estoy acompañada de personas agradables. De ese modo, me animé a dedicarme a realizar mi participación para el concurso. Al principio, no se me ocurrió nada al ver la fotografía días atrás, pero hoy pensé en la caja de herramientas de mi padre.

Creo que por ley, cuando un hombre se vuelve jefe de familia, entre sus responsabilidades como padre y esposo, recibe su caja de herramientas. Ya sea porque se la obsequiaron como parte de un regalo cliché de cumpleaños o navidad o con el tiempo, va comprando las herramientas que necesita hasta tener una caja con todo lo indispensable para resolver cualquier desperfecto del hogar o de vehículos.

En el caso de mi padre, recuerdo que tenía una caja tipo cofre de metal roja, algo oxidada y dentro de ella, se encontraba todo lo que necesitases: martillo, alicates, clavos, cinta métrica, tornillos, destornilladores de cruz y de estrías... por lo que, cuando nos enviaban a buscar algo dentro de la caja de herramientas, mis hermanos y yo nos sentíamos como encontrar dentro de la caja, un objeto solucionador, como sucede en los videojuegos.

Y es que, al ser mi padre electricista, siempre se las arreglaba para terminar trayendo a casas pequeñas piezas que acababan tiradas en la caja de herramientas, sumándose al cúmulo de objetos que serían útiles cuando llegase su turno y por lo menos a mí, todo aquello me parecía fascinante, pues desconocía sus usos.

Con el tiempo, mi padre se fue y una a una, las herramientas comenzaron a oxidarse. Los clavos y tornillos ya no podían usarse, así como los destornilladores, ya no cumplían su función e inclusive, la caja roja que parecía un cofre, fue desechada, al acelerarse su proceso de oxidación luego de que la lluvia hicieras estragos al entrar por el enorme ventanal; en su lugar, las pocas herramientas que apenas y podían usarse, pasaron a colocarse en un tobo o balde de plástico.

Ya no había esa magia al levantar la tapa chirriante y buscar el objeto anhelado, sólo decepción al percartarte de que los clavos y tornillos o lo que sea que necesitases, no se encontraba dentro de aquel tobo de plástico. Y así, sabes que sólo queda iniciar una nueva caja de herramientas.

Hello to everyone in this community and creative writing enthusiasts! With Christmas just around the corner, I'm away from home taking a few days off. It's not the first time I've spent it away from my family, but at least I'm surrounded by nice people. That's why I decided to dedicate myself to writing my entry for the contest. At first, I couldn't think of anything when I saw the photo a few days ago, but today I thought of my father's toolbox.

I believe that, by law, when a man becomes the head of a family, among his responsibilities as a father and husband, he receives his toolbox. Whether it's a gift, a typical birthday or Christmas present, or he gradually acquires the tools he needs until he has a box with everything essential for fixing any household or vehicle problem.

In my father's case, I remember he had a red, somewhat rusty, metal toolbox, like a chest, and inside it was everything you could possibly need: hammer, pliers, nails, tape measure, screws, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers... so, when my brothers and I were sent to look for something in the toolbox, we felt like we'd found a lifesaver inside, like in video games.

Since my father was an electrician, he always managed to bring home small parts that ended up scattered in the toolbox, adding to the pile of objects that would be useful when his turn came. At least to me, all of it seemed fascinating, as I didn't know what they were for.

Over time, my father passed away, and one by one, the tools began to rust. The nails and screws were unusable, and the screwdrivers no longer served their purpose. Even the red toolbox, which looked like a treasure chest, was discarded, its rusting process accelerating after the rain had wreaked havoc by pouring in through the enormous window. In its place, the few tools that were barely usable were put in a plastic bucket.

That magic was gone, that feeling of lifting the creaking lid and searching for the desired item. Now there was only disappointment when you realized that the nails, screws, or whatever it was you needed, weren't inside that plastic bucket. And so, you know that all that's left is to start a new toolbox.
