Waiting for Perfect
And we're off.
My fears have subsided, as I get seasick. This ferry however is the very large one, so it isn't lurching at all, and the sea is calm. The first time I did this trip it was almost 21 years ago, and it was on the smaller boat, in a mild storm. If the trip had been 15 minutes longer, I wouldn't have survived.
No problems today.
Pictures nearly always look better in black and white. Well, these have an orange tint, but still, Monochrome.
Perhaps this is part of the attraction of polarized arguments, where there is a clarity to it, without the nuance of shades of grey. Less consideration is needed, less brain power, no requirement to put oneself into another's shoes.
A question was asked on an article I wrote recently as to whether all this social media and content cos unction being fed, is an attempt to get us to think less.
Yes.
But that is my opinion. One mentioned for instance that is hard to find credible information on for example, eating healthy for children, because there is so much conflicting information out there, like cutting out meat, or going vegan. Yet, for the vast majority of people, the middle ground is clear and all the information is pretty much the same, heavily limit sugar and processed foods, eat vegetables, and eat a bit of meat, and you'll be pretty fine. The conflicting information is more for the outliers, those looking to maximize impact, like athletes. And those people will spend the time to dive deep on what gets them the results they are after.
It reminds me a bit of when I first came to Finland, people would talk of the Russian tourists here to ski in the winter. They would turn up to the slopes with the most expensive equipment, but weren't very good skiers. The best equipment in the hands of an amateur, doesn't make them more skilled. Similarly, the most precise diet isn't going to have much greater impact on an average person than a pretty good diet.
Stop waiting for perfect.
For example, my wife like many, will not go to the gym if her legs are sore, because she can't do a full workout. But, she could do her upper body, right? If we are continually waiting for the perfect conditions to start, we will never start.
I think I have missed a lot because the conditions were not right - in my head.
Now that conditions are never right, I realize that I just have to roll with them regardless. The I formation I have might not be perfect, my skills might be lacking, and my mind might not be in the right place, but fuck it, try anyway.
If you want to eat well, ask Google what a decent diet is and start following it. Once you have some experience with that, review and refine. Same with exercise. We probably don't need the perfect workout to improve, as we aren't athletes who are already in fantastic condition. We just need to get moving and once moving, review and refine as we improve. It isn't that hard, do what are we waiting for?
I should, and I would if I could.
You can.
We might not make it all the way to our goal, but if we make it halfway, we are 50% further toward the goal than we were. Losing 10 pounds when the goal was to lose 20, is better than losing none at all, right? And once that 10 is lost, than we might be motivated to review and refine, to improve our results.
Maybe the polarized public discourse had crept into our behaviors, so we are more "all or nothing" with our actions. If we can't get exactly what we want, we will get nothing. Or if it is something to buy, we will take on debt to get exactly what we want. It is easy when it is a consumer product, but this attitude when applied to our personal development will often lead to the nothing instead of some gain.
Is it better to be pretty fit, than not fit at all? Or is being pretty fit more painful because very fit wasn't achieved?
Perhaps it is just me, but I am yet to experience perfect anything on my life, but if imperfect conditions means doing nothing until perfect arrives, I'd rather have a limited life of some gain than none.
This trip we are on is not going to be the perfect trip, but which is? We have a lovely hotel room, with a view to air-conditioning pipes. However, the bed is nice, but the television doesn't connect to my phone for music. None of the negatives are an issue, but in a perfect world, there would be no negatives, right?
Anyway, we are now going to get out of the room ad see what this lovely city looks like in the afternoon. Before the rains arrive tomorrow.

19 commentsDid you use a filter to get the fade effect on the photos or is that just how you took them? I like the dark to light effect, I am just curious. I have recently found a workout schedule/routine that works quite well for me. Well, I can't say as though I am seeing obvious results but I am comfortable with it and it leaves me the right amount of sore for a day or two after each workout. I hope you have an awesome time on your trip! I know how those ferries can be. My sister in law grew up on an island and after a weekend of partying the ride back can be a bit dicey sometimes!
I edit on my phone using Adobe lightroom. So yes, flattened image, desaturated, gradient filter to darken a side, then a color shift on the dark colors.
It is part of the experience! :D
There are obvious results, and there are the results that matter. I think that being consistently active matters.
Okay cool. I was looking at getting a license for Lightroom a little bit ago, but it seemed a little more complex than I felt comfortable with. The price was also a little high. I didn't realize they had a mobile app.
"We have to continue doing something until perfections arise from it". I agree to this Boss, the reasons is, no matter anything someone wants to do in this life, all the things he needed to start wouldn't be at his disposal and for the person to continue waiting, that he is going to start when all the things he needs are available, it means, they would be no starting for him, no perfection, unless we stands up and make that thing perfect.
Yes, no negatives. But I wonder how the world would be when everything is perfect. Nonetheless, I always stand on the perfectly imperfect horizon.
By the way, the monochrome photography with the orange tint was so amazing. And good to hear that you had a great trip in a lovely hotel room. I hope you are well and feeling better now as I read last year about the health condition you have shared. Best regards.
I imagine that a perfect world would suck. If there is the perfect red, and the perfect blue, what happens to the other hues? And then, can you have a favorite? Because once there is a favorite, it is better than the other, making the other imperfect again.
Dear @tarazkp !
Did you first travel to Estonia 21 years ago?
Did you go to Estonia alone at that time?
I'm amazed that @tarazkp, who was born in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean, is now living in the cold waters of the North Sea!😃
Does @tarazkp miss the tropical seas of his hometown while looking at the cold waters of the North Sea?
I always wonder why @tarazkp leaves his hometown and spends his life far away in the North Sea!
How does @tarazkp want his life to be evaluated by others?
I want to know what @tarazkp's life goals are!
I assumed that the black and white photos taken by @tarazkp were a symbol of his current feelings of depression and loneliness!
Dear my bro!
I hope @tarazkp can understand my awkward English poetry!😄
My life goal is to make it through life, even though I might not want to see where I end up.
I think the least of your problems right now is that the TV doesn't connect to your cell phone to listen to music...please, don't think today, enjoy your trip with your family....
Beautiful pictures, I have to learn how to do that.
I am in limbo of wanting to find the will power to exercise, that would be important to me.
Definitely the least of the issues for sure! Barely a scratch of annoyance even - but not perfect. ;)
Playing with photos is fun. Too many people think that getting an AI to do the work is more valuable though.
Black and white pictures usually have a kind of charm. As for social media, the informations we get there are so overwhelming. At the same time, we don’t have to wait for the perfect time before we get something done. If we keep waiting for the perfect time, it will never come…
Overwhelming amounts of information - underwhelming amounts of value created from the content.
"A question was asked on an article I wrote recently as to whether all this social media and content cos function being fed, is an attempt to get us to think less."
For me that depends, if you use it to create, make constructive criticism, learn something that improves you as a person; The bad thing is if you use it just to distract yourself, because it brings the "complete package" there.
All that work (supported by AI) of the corporations to generate trends according to their convenience, it is like China's TikTok and that of the others, but they know why they do it.
Do you think most people are on average improving themselves, or degrading their skills through the way they use social media?
I've been on a lifelong search for the right diet for me. What is right for me has changed over the years, and has been dependent on time, access, living situation, etc. I still live by a maxim I learned long ago, in the macrobiotic community - "Everything in moderation." Don't ingest too much of any one thing, and eat real food, as little processed food as possible. If you can do those two things, just eat what tastes good to you with those restraints, and you will be eating the right diet for yourself, at that time. I believe our bodies speak to us via our senses, symptoms, feelings, thoughts, whatever. Listen to them, that's what we no longer do. We think someone else (google) has the answers about what is right for us, but only we have those.
Fad diets are to be avoided at all costs, if you ask me, the more strict they are, the more important it is to not do them.
Enjoy your trip.
True. The importance is, we are doing the first step.😊
I agree. I remember the famous saying, "nobody's perfect". I think it can be changed to nothing's perfect as well. Things, locations, situations, etc. can't be perfect. A seemingly perfect room can be imperfect to others. A different color of paint, different furniture, etc. The best way to go about it is to make do with what you have, improve upon it if possible, and just enjoy. Waiting for the perfect thing and time will just pass one by waiting.
Waiting for the perfect condition always steals our time and minimizes our productivity. At times, it makes laziness set in
Hey Taraz! Long time no see. Being quite busy with many Yoga projects and I am really happy with those :D
I have been on a ferry trip just once. I personally did not appreciate it much as I felt quite missing the ground, nature and some normal places that were not be made of steel :D
Did you enjoy it?
