Helping others is one of the most beautiful acts any human can perform. It shows love, compassion, and kindness. In the Bible, it is clearly written that “the hand of the giver will never lack.” This means that those who give sincerely will continue to prosper because their kindness opens doors of blessings. Helping others should not be done for recognition or reward but from a pure heart that feels the need to make another person’s life better.

Everyone gives in one way or another, but the difference lies in how, why, and when we give. Some people give out of love, while others do it to gain favour or attention. There are also those who hold on tightly to what they have and are called stingy. However, being stingy is not always the same as being prudent. A prudent person knows when and how to give without wasting resources, while a stingy person refuses to share even when it is necessary.

True giving does not come with expectations. When you help someone and expect something in return, that is not kindness. It is a form of trade. Many people only give because they believe the person they are helping will one day repay them. But the real essence of helping is found in giving freely, expecting nothing back. The joy that comes from seeing another person smile because of your help should be enough reward.

Let me share a story to explain this better. I once had a friend who lost both parents at a very young age. His father died in a tragic accident, and his mother passed away not long after. Left with his younger siblings, life became very hard for him. At just 14 years old, he got a job as a cleaner in a hospital to survive. One day, a female doctor noticed him and was surprised to see such a young boy working there. After hearing his story, she decided to help.

The doctor took him into her home since she needed help with house chores. Even though she was married, her husband lived in another state, so she stayed mostly alone. She helped my friend with half of his school fees and allowed him to continue his hospital job. After some years, she retired and moved to live with her husband, but she still sent him money for his upkeep.

With her support, my friend was able to finish school and start a better life. Out of gratitude, he always sent her money and visited whenever she asked. However, as time went on, the woman began to expect too much from him, asking him to wash clothes and do house chores whenever he visited, forgetting he now had responsibilities of his own.

This story teaches us that helping others should come from a place of love, not control. When we help, we should not expect endless loyalty or repayment. True kindness gives freedom, not bondage. The best kind of giving is when we do it quietly, expecting nothing but knowing deep inside that we have touched a life.
