OLD LADY IN THE WELL
Who would have known that a day so lively and full of cheer would turn out to be so mysterious.
It was Jason's birthday. Jason was the third child of a family who were very good friends with my family. We've lived not so far from each other since childhood. Jason was turning Fifteen and I had just clocked Twenty five the previous month.
That morning I had done my house chore, had breakfast and had come back to my bed to rest.
It was about 11am when my Mom called out to me to go assist Jason's family with the birthday decorations and food preparations.
I grumbled out of bed and went to Jason's house.
They had done a lot already and there wasn't much for me to do. I helped to sweep the dirts in the living room which were mostly unwanted parts of the decorations.
Since there wasn't anything else to do, I decided to take a brief stroll round the vicinity.
I headed towards the backyard, no one was there. At the backyard, they had this barricade made out of woods. It was like a wooden fence, about 8feet high. The woods were old and some parts were rotten, infested with termites.
As i turned to leave, my eyes met with a door on the barricade. I had seen it before but this time i was more curious on what was behind that barricade, I had never gone past it.
There was always a lock on it but this time there wasn't and no one was there to stop me so i went towards the door.
It was cranky, as i pushed it open it made some squeaky noise. Beyond the barricade were many trees surrounded by dry leaves on the ground. Leaves were everywhere except for a narrow path leading to a well.
A tree casted it's shadow on the well, giving shade to it. The feeling of being there was intense. I felt guilty, scared but curious! I pushed past all my feelings and walked towards the well, counting my steps.
Dirts (mostly dusts and leaves) where on the cover of the well. The cover was made up of metal, it looked rusted and like it hadn't been opened for years. If i got to this point i might as well just open it!
I opened the well and at first it looked like nothing, the well water was clean and no cobweb formed in the well which i thought was odd. My thoughts were disrupted by an image i saw forming on the water. Was my mind messing with me?
I cleaned my eyes and looked again, right there was an image of an old Lady! Her hair was completely grey, her face wrinkled and her eyes were white, it almost felt like they were emitting light. Then she said:
"HELLO AMANDA, IT'S BEEN FIFTEEN YEARS TODAY. WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE AGAIN?"
I screamed and took off running, heading straight home.
My mom was having her bath when i got home and my dad was working in the garden. I ran straight to my room panting with my heart beating harder than it ever had. "What just happened?" I thought to myself.
Should i tell my mom? Would she believe me?
My mom knows me to be a fan of scary movies, she had try to stop me from it countless times but it never worked. Of course, she wouldn't believe me. She would say "these are the effects of those movies you watch, it's your imagination."
I'm sure it wasn't an imagination, that voice definitely wasn't my imagination!
I decided to act calm like nothing happened.
When it was time for the birthday celebration, i went with my mom. All through the event, Mrs Amanda (Jason's Mom) eyes kept lurking at me with such intensity...
