Active listening
We crystallize our ideas, our “truths.” We make sure that what we have inside never leaves, or is displaced by anything that comes from outside. An absolutely silly idea circulates... that “my truth” may not be “your truth.” There is no such thing. The truth belongs to no one, nor is there anyone who possesses it absolutely. It is unique. We may never even know what the truth, the only truth, is...
How is it that in these times we allow ourselves to become crystallized, how is it that we close ourselves off, not listening, not hearing, being completely oblivious to everything that is happening around us?
Not listening to others is simply a huge mistake, a huge loss. The time we have, and that we dispose of, and that we think we control, the more we keep it for ourselves, and for ourselves, the less attention we sometimes pay to others.
Wisdom cannot be born and grow within us if we allow ourselves to be influenced and listen to what others can bring that is different to our perspective.
We are so focused on listening only to our inner voice that we don't even take the time to listen to others. We think that if someone has a different view from ours, it is not to be taken seriously, and we won't even waste our time with that “fool” or “ignorant person.” This reality leaves us increasingly isolated, in sterile groups, with little or no interaction or fluidity, only making us more fragile, too simple to be able to resist even a small change. We only know “our reality” and our perspective, which we think is the only one that deserves to be ‘seen’ or “credited.” Everything else is simply ignored or rejected.
Leaving our “shell,” our “rock,” and allowing our surroundings to influence us is something that should not only be desired, but cultivated. We look at societies where culture and art do not exist, or are repressed, and see how these people live. Basic needs are barely met, and what is considered accessory is left “behind.” But it is not accessory; it is part of the human condition. Our most imaginative side cannot be amputated. Our nature as social beings must be enhanced.
In a world where the voices of people, of the simplest people, of the elderly, or of children are gradually silenced... in a world where the voice and sound of weapons is increasingly heard. Where the law of the strongest is imposed.
Seeing other points of view, perceiving reality as seen by others, only gives us a greater ability to better understand the world around us.
The hardening of our being only makes us more immobile. Less agile. Less capable, and less open to a fantastic world that is much more than we are able to see!
The expiration of internal certainties is something that age brings.

6 commentsAnytime we deviate from listening what we already discipline our minds on we tend to be disrupted. That's the power of what we listen too it makes a lot of changes in and out @xrayman
And we don't wanna loose that ability and that particular feature. Seems a lit bit like a contradiction, but in fact, it makes all the sense, in the "end of the road".
Have a great week, my friend
Sorry for the over due in the reply of your comment. It has been crazy "times" at work...
Have a great week!
I think it's through exposure to other ideas and "truths" that we can guage where our own ideas stand, are they really grounded or not? What are they based on? etc. Personally, it's always interesting to see an idea in many different lights as time passes, most ideas morph into something else or just fall away.
And we don't need to "see it" as a failure, or has we were wrong in the past. Ideas are plastic, and even if we are right today, it doesn't mean that we stay right in the "next week". That is what I value more about in disputes, and debates. A respectful way of exposing our ideas should be always aimed. The different ways that "light" hits the spot, makes it more clear for everyone.
Thank you so much for your comment, and input, my friend.
