When we saw him lying stiff on the ground, legs up in the air, the whole family felt a deep sadness. Although he no longer had any strength, Nevado tried to gallop, but the disease had consumed his body and his energy. Suddenly, he collapsed and took his last breath.

I clearly remember when Nevado was born. I was a child, and with his funny pony movements, he looked like a beautiful toy that breathed. At that moment, he was the joy of his mother, a very beautiful mare named La Reina, and of everyone on the farm. At first, he galloped clumsily, but soon he did so with agility. After a while, they put a bridle on him, and I was able to ride him. I talked to him, brushed him, and brought him water and food. When you form a bond with a horse that grows up with you, it is a strong bond, forever.

Nevado and I traveled many roads together over the years. That's why, when the illness struck, I knew. My adventure buddy started getting tired after just a few miles, which was unusual. I called the vet, we ran some tests, and then came the difficult diagnosis: Nevado had a degenerative disease. He lost weight and vitality. Until today, when he finally passed away. But a part of him will always be with us.

Cuando lo vimos tieso, en la tierra, con las patas hacia arriba, toda la familia sintió una profunda tristeza. Aunque ya no tenía fuerzas, Nevado intentaba galopar, pero la enfermedad se había comido su cuerpo y sus energías. De pronto se desplomó y dio su último respiro.

Recuerdo claramente cuando Nevado nació. Yo era un niño, y con sus graciosos movimientos de pony, me parecía un bonito juguete que respiraba. En ese momento fue la alegría de su madre, una yegua muy hermosa llamada La Reina, y la de todos en la granja. Galopaba al principio con torpeza, pero pronto lo hizo con agilidad. Luego de un tiempo le pusieron bridas y pude montarlo. Conversaba con él, le pasaba el cepillo, le llevaba agua y alimento. Cuando se crea vínculo con un caballo que crece contigo, es un vínculo fuerte, para siempre.

Nevado y yo recorrimos muchos caminos a través de los años. Por eso, cuando la enfermedad llegó lo supe. Mi compañero de aventuras comenzó a cansarse apenas recorríamos pocos kilómetros, lo que no era usual. Llamé al veterinario, le hicimos algunos exámenes y llegó el difícil diagnóstico, Nevado tenía una enfermedad degenerativa. Fue perdiendo peso y vitalidad. Hasta que hoy, finalmente se ha ido. Pero una parte de él, siempre estará con nosotros.
