87 commentsGood morning! This is a nice coffee conversation to start with. If my friend offered me these two, I would choose the French press because it is easier to use, I like richer coffee, and I can play with the servings, like how much water I should add to it. And yes, honestly speaking, one of my friends really did give me a French Press. She has been a generous friend since college. I always cooked for her when we were sharing the same dorm room. She always appreciates it.
What a good friend. I had to buy mine, haha.
I started in the world of coffee with coffee made in a moka pot; it wasn't until about ten years ago after I started drinking coffee that I learned about coffee made in a French press. The waitress brought our dessert and the coffee inside a cute French press; she pressed down the plunger, smile and left. The smell was oh! It was one of the best coffees I've tried in my life.
She knew that I really loved coffee and that, at the time, she was already married to an American man and ready to leave the Philippines for good, so she gave me a French Press. But she said, "You have to buy your own ground coffee for this." Hahaha. She is so hilarious! Fair enough.
A gift that was worth it. Those are friends that should be kept by our side and most importantly, they knew your tastes and gave you a gift based on your preferences.
A cup of coffee for this weekend.☕
French press is a really nice choice. It will always give you a cup of tasty coffee! And it can brew you a cup of excellent tea too! So it is also a better option if you want a multi purpose brewer!
A very beautiful and grateful gesture from your friend!
I have never handled a French press, but I have seen friends do it and I agree with you that it is a more “artisanal” method and therefore more appropriate for entertaining.
Thank you so much for your appreciation.
Your friend is cool! I want a friend like yours to give me a french press hehe. But I think if I want one I will have to buy it, lol.
Hahaha, yes, probably in the future, I will buy one for myself. But right now I enjoy going to the coffee shop because I can have my me time.
I love to go to a coffee shop for a me time.
Happy Sunday!
Hey, coffee friends!
I hope your week was good. Mine was good and my coffee, too.
About this moka pot vs. French press topic, well, if it's a gift, I'd prefer a moka pot because I want to start my collection again, but if I have to choose what my friend would use to make the coffee we were going to drink, I have to see about that: if their French press is of good quality and they know how to use it, I'd choose this one. Why? Well, coffee brewed with a French press has a more rounded flavor, even when it's dark roast; it's more gentle on the palate.
The coffee I had with that muffin was brewed in my little French press. Luckily, it was delicious. It had never happened before, haha.
Wow, it's a good thing you still have your French press. Mine was 10 years old, and it's gone. After that, I just used the traditional way of making coffee at home. I buy Nescafe Gold Black Coffee, a little sugar, and no cream, and that is how I kick-start my day. But whenever I go to a coffee shop, I want something new, not plain coffee.
Btw, that muffin is so yummy.
The muffin was glorious 😸 It was a gift.
I don't think I've tried Nescafé for the last couple of years, though I do use it in my brownie mix sometimes.
Maybe you should review your brewing recipe with the French press! 😁
In general, French press is just the tool that will divide your beans from the liquid! Similar to filter method. Is your coffee too bitter? What flows do you find?
Any brewing method can produce beautiful coffee! It is more of a personal preference how you will enjoy your coffee more. Best wishes!
Really? I'll do that, I'll review the recipe and the recipe maker 🤭🤣 I think I need to grind the beans coarser, for starters.
And make sure the water isn’t boiling… maybe around 85-88 degrees centigrade 🥸
Thank you so much for that tip!
I can only say that I have not tasted the coffee from all these coffee makers, so we have a long account to settle!!!!
You have! Don't say you don't remember. Makes feel like cheap coffee 😂
Hahaha...
The point is clear. Start polishing your coffee pots. Adriana is coming!!!
Polishing I am!
Maybe your ebony coffee maker feels that you don't want it, that's why it doesn't give you the coffee you expect🤭 You should talk to him like you talk to plants, who knows maybe a miracle will happen.
Luckily you have your French press to make your delicious coffees. Now I see why you chose it.
A morning coffee to brighten up your day.☕
I'll start talking to my little French press, hehe. I don't know if it'll make great coffee in the end, but it's going to be fun for those watching me do it 😂
I have never made coffee in a French press. But I would like to learn how to use it.
That muffin with coffee looks so delicious.
I have a cousin who collects moka pots and she has some very old ones. Her most recent acquisition was given to her by my mother who had a moka pot with a ceramic top. She offered it to me and in my eagerness not to accumulate things that I won't use I told her to give it to my cousin and they even put it to work, hehe.
Among the things that the thieves took when they broke into my father's house was a beautiful moka pot with a ceramic upper chamber 💓
Oh, I totally understand when you say you're avoiding storing things you won't use. I recently moved house and had to get rid of so many things because my new place is ten times smaller than the old house I used to live in. But small as it is, I'm making space for my moka pot collection; it might not be this year, but the idea is fixed on my mind.
I wish you good luck with your collection and I hope you will share on Hive how it is growing.
Hopefully!!!
Sure, my Hive coffee friends will be the first to see the progress of my collection ☕❤️
Let's see: French press or Moka (in my country we usually call it Greca)?
My impression is that French press coffee is usually smoother, regardless of the roast, variety or blend you use. I think, as an inveterate drinker and observer, without being a specialist, that it has to do with the moderation of the temperature that is achieved with the filtering in press, which is usually slower. Moka, on the other hand, passes through the filter at full steam and ejects jets of that boiling manna. It gives a denser coffee, since it literally drags all the substance from the bean.
I say here in this, my physical-chemical fantasy! 😆🙃
The truth is that if a friend gave me a choice, in my heart I would choose the Moka coffee, although I understand that the French press is more ceremonious and more appropriate for entertaining. I also know that if my friend wants to pay attention to me, I would let him use his French press and it would also be a great joy for me to give him that opportunity: I would explore the flavors, textures, aromas and I would surely have an interesting and imaginative conversation with this friend about the differences between both ways of making coffee.
Happy weekend, coffee lovers!
If a friend offers me a French press or a moka pot as a gift, I choose the French press. Why? I have never had one, hehe, and I would love to learn how to use it. For as long as I can remember and have had a taste for coffee, I have made my coffee at home in a moka pot. We have had a couple of coffee makers to make espresso, but I always prefer to make it in a moka pot, to be honest.
In these days that I am in Colombia, I have gone to several coffee shops and I have tried coffees with different filtering methods and I like them all, especially for the afternoon coffee. The filtered coffees are less intense but allow perceiving different flavors in the coffee, I find that they have a natural sweet taste and are perfect to drink with a sweet pastry in the afternoon.
So if my friend is offering me a coffee when I visit him. If it's in the afternoon I would tell him to make it in French Press to enjoy it slowly as we chat. If it is a morning visit, I would probably choose the Moka Pot to have that shot of intense coffee so necessary for me in the morning hours, LOL.
At home in the morning my moka pot does not fail, hehe. Here in Bogota we have one and a manual grinder.
I love to drink my morning coffee with freshly ground coffee that impregnates the morning with its aroma. Cheers!☕️
Let’s see now… While Moka pots can produce coffee that is closer to espresso (you have to use finer ground coffee and water passes through coffee under pressure), I may still prefer the French press.
In addition to the lighter and more delicate flavor that this method produces, it can be used to brew some delicious tea as well. The principle behind this tool is to separate particles from the liquid and that’s all! No complex engineering at all. And it is a bough for the magic to happen!
In conclusion, these brewers can give you excellent results. Just make sure to put some high quality beans in both, if you want a tasty cup of coffee!
After reading all these conversations I think I'm going to buy a french press. I don't think I can do without my moka pot, I've been using it for many years hehe, but a change from time to time wouldn't be bad. Especially if these days I have access to good coffee grains at reasonable prices.
Ah, the quality beans! Haha! But of course 😸 I'll try.
You know, after giving up with coffee, I started using my French press for infusions, and it's wonderful.
If a good friend gave me the choice, I would choose the French press. A few months ago I learned about the French press in a coffee shop in my city, where they gave me a coffee class, I loved the method, I considered it more artisanal and artistic than the moka coffee maker that I have been using for years.
I am curious to make coffee with this type of coffee maker and to discover with it the point that I like, besides I will be happy to invite my sisters and friends to have a coffee where the center is the novelty and how different the coffee of the afternoon snack can be.
A class on coffee is something I'd like to take some day. I think it should be a fun and interesting plan.
But coffee + snack + conversation with friends and sisters about coffee is even more fun hehe.
Cheers ☕️
I really liked the photo you shared with us. Coffee in a French press seems more like art and elegance with an unparalleled deliciousness.
A toast with coffee on this Sunday of rest.☕
I agree! When you make coffee in a French press it feels more like it's handmade 😌💕
I would love to be invited to drink coffee among those friends
It was only recently that I became aware of the existence of the French press. I only knew the two methods of coffee preparation most used in my country, the bag and the greca, which is the same Moka.
Reading your conversations has awakened my curiosity and I am going to try to buy one of those presses to see if I can appreciate the difference in the preparation of coffee.
Happy day.
The cloth bag that our grandmothers used and that my aunt still uses today lol is a more rustic method of filtered coffee than the sophisticated ones of today, but it is the same principle. The filtered coffee seems to me to be lighter in flavor and has some sweet notes although it depends on the coffee bean.
And I am also curious now to prepare at home a coffee with french press, hehe.
Happy Sunday!
Excellent Sunday of conversation coffee lovers.
Today I come with my participation in the conversation of the week of our beloved coffee group.
To answer the question if I would prefer a Moka or a French press as a gift, well I would like a French press although I must admit that I have never tasted a filtered coffee from a French press, I have seen and read that the coffee comes out more delicious, the flavor is better and more smooth, besides being very beautiful and stylish. So I would say to my friend, “Gift me a French press, right away”. I'm kidding I would never do that not to the most trusted friend I have.🤭
I leave you a picture of the strainer we use at home, it is not very nice or elegant, but my mother keeps it because it was a gift from my dear grandmother, as you can see it is already many years old. Haha.🧓
I hope to continue reading you in the comments.
I wish you all an excellent start of the week with lots of coffee.☕
I love your old school filter! You must drink delicious coffee every day.
You made me remember that probably one of the best artisan coffees I have ever had in my life, I drank it when I was too young to appreciate it. They made it in a house of my grandfather's family (on my mother's side) where my family and I used to go on vacation; it was a country house by the river. The coffee was made with a cloth strainer and served in "totumas," cups made from the husk of "tapara." A delicious coffee: delicate but with a lot of aroma and a persistent and pleasant aftertaste.
You think your mother will pass down that coffee maker to you? 😸
I love your strainer. It looks a lot like I use at home.Of course as I said in my participation if it is given.Either of the two would do well.
Actually if a friend asked me to choose between those two options (French Greca or Moka Pot) I would find me in trouble.Well, either of them could do very well.In my country we generally make coffee with an oya of boiling water that then passes through a cloth strainer where the coffee dust is.
So I would love to have a Greece or anything else that changes my routine or experience.I would love the novelty of making coffee differently and inviting my friends to drink coffee.

Greetings friends of the @cinnamoncupcoffee community, for the first time I come to participate in this community. The lime brings us an interesting question about the vital and special liquid, coffee. I say so, who can start their day without a delicious cup of coffee?
Now, so as not to go into the subject, I am going to answer this question.
If your friend offered you the choice between a French press and a Moka pot, which would you select and why?
The question is very interesting and very easy to answer, because if I had to choose between a French press and a Moka pot, I would choose the pot, why would I do it? For the simple reason that I would be able to offer my friends a delicious coffee and spend pleasant afternoons of nice conversations.
It is rare to see someone who does not like sharing a coffee with friends, it is very enjoyable and also you have pleasant conversations and unique moments, where time flies by and we do not realize it, night comes and there are still many things we want to talk about, and if it were about friends, the time to talk never ends.
In my city there is a very nice place that I had not visited yet. I was able to visit it with a friend whom I appreciate and admire a lot, and in that place they prepare very good coffee, I would say excellent. You spend very pleasant moments there and you also enjoy your stay there.
We visited the place and had a very pleasant time, talking about Hive and trying to get active again. When we see each other regularly we really enjoy each other's company, and every time I grab a cup of coffee, its flavor is special, coffee is something magical, it entertains you, it makes you talk, it makes you express whatever situation you are living, in short, I love this drink and its pleasant aroma.
Coffee is magical and at home I really like to drink coffee with something else. I usually enjoy this drink with black coffee, with coffee with milk, and some nuts with granola. The flavor is very special.
I have enjoyed sharing with you this very interesting topic related to coffee. I hope you all like it and that you enjoy reading it.
Thank you for your visit and support.

Sadly, I was absolutely and disastrously switched off out of life for a last week, postponed leaving my comment immediately as I saw it, and then it became out if question. I will leave this here, in case anybody will come and read xD
I have my own Mocha and already know what sort of coffee it may give. And I never yet tried French press (shame on me!). So, yeah, my decision between two options looks almost imminent and natural: french press. I'll be glad to try something new! and maybe I even be converted into a new faith @millycf1976... although the chances are not too solid :)))
And it seems I can show you a French press photo! look, this the photo I found in my archive 😜 it is a photo of a book which has it, (wide smile). Have a nice week and dont let Universe to spoil sweet thing for you.
