A Christmas stroll through Bolivar Square in Mérida, Venezuela Eng-Esp
Hello, Hive friends. Welcome to my last post of 2025, and what better way to close out the year than with a Christmas walk. Although the best Christmas walks are at night, when the lights come on and the Christmas magic appears, during the day we can also admire the city's decorations and enjoy them.
On this occasion, Christmas shopping took us to the center of the city of Mérida, after a short bus ride from the municipality where I live. The center of Mérida welcomed us with its characteristic warmth; on this occasion, there were many people everywhere, especially in the shops.
We arrive at Plaza Bolívar, which looks very pretty this Christmas; I still need to see it at night, but I can imagine how beautiful it looks. The first building I show you is the government palace, one of the region's most iconic buildings.
In front of it, we have this beautiful garden, full of lovely vegetation, perfect for taking a break and enjoying the Christmas atmosphere that surrounds it. One of my favorite decorations is this huge sign that wishes us a Merry Christmas in white letters with beautiful golden stars.
This year they included these Andean characters, dressed in traditional costumes and the colors of the flag of the state of Mérida. I really liked them, and I can imagine how they look at night.
The contrast between the sunlight filtering through the trees, their shadows, and the decorations creates the perfect backdrop for taking photos that showcase the beautiful architecture of the historic district.
Of course, my favorite part of the square is the central area where we can admire the equestrian sculpture of the liberator Simón Bolívar. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite sculptures, an excellent work of art that is never alone; it is always surrounded by birds, especially pigeons, which fill the square with life and that children love to play with.
Backstage areas, star-shaped light corridors, and other incredible arches invite you to visit this place and take home a beautiful memory of this Christmas. Reindeer are a must, and these were my little boy's favorites.
Bolívar Square in Mérida is a great place to visit any time of year, but it looks especially beautiful at Christmas.
We had a wonderful time in the square, eating churros, enjoying the architecture and Christmas decorations, and of course looking up to admire the beautiful palm trees that frame this lovely garden in the middle of the city.
This was my last Wednesday walk for this year. I wish each of you a 2026 full of incredible adventures, lots of excitement, pleasant walks, and good health to enjoy every place your destiny takes you. Have a wonderful New Year's Eve, and may the new year bring the best for each of you and your families.
And if Mérida is in your plans for 2026, don't forget to stop by Plaza Bolívar.
