Hola a toda la comunidad de Holos & Lotus ¿cómo se encuentran? Espero que bien. Hoy participo en la iniciativa propuesta por @charjaim, que invita a reflexionar sobre cómo se viven las prácticas navideñas en nuestras familias, explorando nuestro yo navideño de esa forma. También me gustaría que las usuarias @amorxamor y @osismi compartieran sus puntos de vista sobre las tradiciones de Fin de Año en Cuba.

Sin más preámbulo, bienvenidos a mi blog, espero que sea de su agrado.

La mayoría de los cubanos no tenemos experiencias de una Navidad extravagante, aunque si preguntas a alguien en la calle, puede que te diga lo contrario. Para el cubano de a pie, tener el refrigerador lleno y dos o tres cajas de cerveza bien guardadas en casa es algo muy especial.

En este año que termina, más de la mitad de los cubanos tendremos un diciembre raro: debido a los virus que circulan en el país y que tienen a las personas adoloridas, por los apagones frecuentes, la escasez de agua, los precios exorbitantes y porque muchas familias tuvieron que despedirse de sus hijos, los cuales partieron en busca de mejores economías.

Muchos intentarán mantenerse fieles a las tradiciones de la temporada: con una comida de varios platillos, bebidas para brindar el 31 de diciembre y un muñeco para quemar que represente al año viejo. Se darán abrazos, bailarán, hablarán a través de WhatsApp para saber cómo está el amigo o el familiar que vive del otro lado del charco.

Otros no tendrán motivos para celebrar, pues las dificultades pesarán mucho más, aunque se diga que el cubano sabe gozar incluso con solo un plato de malangas en la mesa.

Como curiosidad, somos un pueblo alegre por naturaleza. En Fin de Año, ese vecino que solo comerá espaguetis con picadillo seguramente te recibirá con una sonrisa si tocas su puerta antes de la medianoche para felicitarlo. Posiblemente tendrá una botellita de ron guardada y soltará algún chiste ocurrente, concluyendo con un “¡al menos estamos vivos!”

La incertidumbre sobre el nuevo año está presente en cada uno de nosotros. Nadie sabe si los precios subirán o bajarán finalmente, pero algunos seguimos siendo optimistas y esperamos salir de esta crisis para siempre. Tratamos de avanzar como sea, aunque hay quien toma riesgos innecesarios que complican aún más la situación en diciembre.

Este año, en mi barrio no se han adornado los balcones con muñecos de Santa Claus o luces, como antes. Sin embargo, he escrito más sobre estas fiestas en Ecency de lo que imaginé en mis tres años creando contenido aquí.

En años anteriores tuve la posibilidad de encaminar mi vida de otra forma. Ahora muchas puertas se están cerrando cada vez más y muchas personas necesarias se están marchando fuera del país, sin pensar en regresar. No obstante, mantengo la esperanza de que el 2026 será mejor de lo esperado, porque...

Quiero que los desafortunados tengamos suerte y que podamos disfrutar la vida como merecemos, ¡ya que al fin y al cabo no le hemos hecho daño a nadie; todo lo contrario!

Heloo to the entire Holos & Lotus community, ¿how are you all doing? I hope you are well. Today I am participating in the initiative proposed by @charjaim, which invites us to reflect on how Christmas traditions are lived in our families, exploring our Christmas selves in that way. I would also like the users @amorxamor and @osismi to share their views on New Year's traditions in Cuba.

Most Cubans do not have experiences of an extravagant Christmas, although if you ask someone on the street, they might tell you otherwise. For the average Cuban, having a fridge full of food and two or three boxes of well-kept beer at home is something very special.

This year coming to an end, more than half of Cubans will experience a strange December due to the viruses circulating in the country that leave people in pain, frequent blackouts, water shortages, soaring prices, and because many families had to say goodbye to their children who left seeking better economic opportunities.

Many will try to stay faithful to the season's traditions: a meal with several dishes, drinks to toast on December 31, and a doll to burn representing the old year. There will be hugs, dancing, and conversations through WhatsApp to check on friends or family living across the ocean.

Others will have no reason to celebrate, as the hardships will weigh much more heavily, even though it is said that Cubans know how to enjoy themselves with only a plate of malanga on the table.

As a curiosity, we are a naturally cheerful people. On New Year's Eve, that neighbor who will only eat spaghetti with ground beef will surely welcome you with a smile if you knock on their door before midnight to wish them well. They probably have a small bottle of rum hidden and will crack a witty joke or two, concluding with “at least we’re alive!”

The uncertainty about the new year is present in each of us. No one knows if prices will go up or down in the end, but some of us remain optimistic and hope to finally get out of this crisis. We try to move forward however we can, though some take unnecessary risks that complicate the situation even more in December.

This year, balconies in my neighborhood have not been decorated with Santa Claus dolls or lights like before. However, I have written more about these holidays on Ecency than I ever imagined in my three years creating content here.

In previous years, I had the possibility to shape my life differently. Now many doors are closing more and more, and many important people are leaving the country with no thought of returning. Nevertheless, I keep hope that 2026 will be better than expected because...

I want us, the unfortunate, to have luck and to enjoy life as we deserve—after all, we have done no harm to anyone; quite the opposite!
