​The enthusiasm to leave the past behind and reinvent ourselves in a new year sometimes surprises me in these first months; until I discover myself, again, as that girl, young woman or woman who runs to please everyone and tries to solve too many things in the same day.

Therefore, this year I have written down my goals and outlined a path. When I feel the urge to run, I tell myself: “one thing at a time.”Personally, I resumed an English course in which I advance step by step; I also picked up the book I had half-finished since last year and, every night before going to sleep, I dedicate time to it.

My wish is that reading and my personal improvement become priorities again. For many reasons I began to abandon myself and leave myself for later. My challenge for this year is to prioritize myself, and that is not becoming selfish; It is understanding that my time and my dreams are also important.

​My favorite food

​I'm not a good cook, but I love making desserts. I think and think to decide on one while I write and I feel that there is nothing better than guava jam, my favorite fruit.

​Since I was little, I loved feeling that smell that filled the entire house when my mother or my grandmother cooked it. It's not just its aroma or flavor, it's also the childhood memories it brings back to me. I was one of those who waited, spoon in hand, to eat the "raspa" that was still hot in the cauldron.

​It is very easy to make and, of course, its magic ingredient is the very ripe guava—almost overripe, as we Cubans say.

​El entusiasmo por dejar el pasado atrás y reinventarnos en un nuevo año a veces me sorprende en estos primeros meses; hasta que me descubro, otra vez, como esa niña, joven o mujer que corre para complacer a todos e intenta resolver demasiadas cosas en un mismo día.

​Por eso, este año he escrito mis metas y he trazado un camino. Cuando siento el impulso de correr, me repito: «una cosa a la vez». En lo personal, retomé un curso de inglés en el que avanzo paso a paso; también retomé el libro que tenía a medias desde el año pasado y, cada noche antes de dormir, le dedico tiempo.

​Mi deseo es que la lectura y mi superación personal vuelvan a ser prioridades. Por muchas razones me fui abandonando y dejándome para después. Mi reto para este año es priorizarme, y eso no es volverme egoísta; es entender que mi tiempo y mis sueños también son importantes.

​Mi comida favorita

​No soy buena cocinera, pero amo hacer postres. Pienso y pienso para decidirme por uno mientras escribo y siento que no hay nada mejor que la mermelada de guayaba, mi fruta preferida.

​Desde pequeña, adoraba sentir ese olor que inundaba toda la casa cuando mi mamá o mi abuela la cocinaban. No es solo su aroma o sabor, son también los recuerdos de la niñez que me trae. Yo era de esas que esperaba, cuchara en mano, para comer la «raspa» que quedaba en el caldero aún caliente.

​Es muy fácil de elaborar y, por supuesto, su ingrediente mágico es la guayaba bien madura —casi pasadita, como decimos los cubanos—.
