Fungi Friday: Fungi Finds and a Cameo by Feathers McGraw!
For #fungifriday initiated by @ewkaw, I went fungi hunting in one of my favourite woods.
It was overcast and there was a bit of rain in the air. Unfortunately, I didn't spot too much, but here is what I did find.
The hoof fungus is very woody and really does look like a hoof. I've heard these are good for keeping a fire going while camping.
Some twigs were embedded in this one, which was growing on a fallen beech tree. It’s interesting how nature always finds a way to keep growing, even when faced with obstacles.
Google lens is telling me this is schizophyllum commune, but I've no idea if this is correct. 🤔
The only problem with shelf/bracket fungi is that they can all look very similar.
I decided to call upon my friend Feathers McGraw to make it look more interesting (and slightly silly). Don't worry no penguins were harmed in the making of this post. You don't mess with Feathers McGraw!
