Today I’m stopping by to tell you about a movie that’s caught my attention lately: “Scream” Part 7. It was released on February 27, 2026, and directed by Kevin Williamson, the original creator of the franchise.

This installment of the franchise marks the triumphant return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, alongside Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. The plot follows the classic formula: a new Ghostface terrorizes Sidney, who is now living a quiet life, but this time her daughter becomes the primary target, forcing her to return to the deadly game she thought she had left behind. With an estimated budget of $45 million and worldwide box office receipts exceeding $175 million in its first few weeks, the film has been a relative commercial success, but critics and many fans have met it with harsh criticism.

The film kicks off with a solid opening sequence, true to the "Scream" style: an unexpected victim, tense phone calls, and a creative murder that builds anticipation. It shines with meta-humor, horror references, and genre self-awareness. Neve Campbell reclaims her status as a scream queen with a strong, emotional performance, as her Sidney is no longer the vulnerable teenager but a protective mother shaped by decades of trauma. Seeing her face off against Ghostface again generates genuine nostalgia and emotional moments that work.

However, the film quickly loses steam. The screenplay by Williamson and Guy Busick repeats moments from previous installments without adding anything fresh. The killer’s identity is predictable from the first act, and the motivation behind the crimes feels forced and unconvincing. What was ingenious and revolutionary in the 1996 “Scream” becomes a soulless, nostalgic karaoke here. There are too many nods to the past, but without the intelligence or edge that made them fun.

Technically speaking, in my opinion, it’s not the best, since the cinematography is overly dark—which makes it hard to appreciate the tense scenes—and the editing is clumsy and lacks rhythm. The deaths, though somewhat gory—and some are truly brutal—lose their impact due to a lack of real suspense. There are a couple of effective sequences, such as a chase inside a house and a somewhat chaotic finale, but nothing that sticks in the mind like the garage in the original "Scream" or the car in "Scream 2."

For many critics, this is the worst installment in the series, and they dismiss it as forgettable; however, audiences are more forgiving, appreciating the performances and Campbell’s return. Even among fans, opinions are divided: for some, it’s passable gory entertainment; for others, it’s a betrayal of the meta and intelligent spirit that defined the series.

In short, folks, "Scream 7" isn't a total disaster—it has moments of genuine horror and the charisma of its veteran stars—but it represents the obvious exhaustion of a formula that has already run its course. It feels like a stab in the back to the "Scream" universe; in short, a cheap, uninspired version of what was once revolutionary. Honestly, if you’re a die-hard fan, it’s worth watching for Campbell and to wrap up—or not?—Sidney’s arc. But if you’re looking for the wit, the fresh scares, or the sharp self-criticism of the first installments, this seventh installment will leave you wanting to scream—but out of frustration. As for me, I’ll say goodbye for now and see you at the next movie.

En el día de hoy paso por acá para hablarles de una película que me llamó la atención por estos días, se trata de "Scream" en su parte número 7, la misma fue estrenada el 27 de febrero de 2026 y dirigida por Kevin Williamson, el creador original de la saga.

En esta parte de la saga, se remarca el regreso triunfal de Neve Campbell como Sidney Prescott, junto a Courteney Cox como Gale Weathers. La trama sigue la fórmula clásica, un nuevo Ghostface aterroriza a Sidney, ahora en una vida tranquila, pero esta vez su hija se convierte en el objetivo principal, obligándola a volver al juego mortal que pensó haber dejado atrás. Con un presupuesto estimado de 45 millones y una recaudación que superó los 175 millones mundiales en sus primeras semanas, el filme ha sido un éxito comercial relativo, pero la crítica y muchos fans lo han recibido con duras críticas.

La película arranca con una secuencia de apertura sólida, fiel al estilo "Scream", una víctima inesperada, llamadas telefónicas tensas y un asesinato creativo que genera expectativas. En ella brilla el meta-humor, las referencias al terror y la autoconciencia del género. Neve Campbell recupera su estatus de scream queen con una interpretación fuerte y emocional, ya que su Sidney ya no es la adolescente vulnerable, sino una madre protectora esculpida por décadas de trauma. Verla de nuevo enfrentando a Ghostface genera nostalgia genuina y momentos emotivos que funcionan.

Sin embargo, el filme se desinfla rápidamente. El guión de Williamson y Guy Busick,repite momentos de entregas anteriores sin aportar nada fresco. La revelación del asesino es predecible desde el primer acto, y la motivación detrás de los crímenes se siente forzada y poco convincente. Lo que en "Scream" de 1996 era ingenioso y revolucionario, aquí se convierte en un karaoke nostálgico sin alma. Hay demasiados guiños al pasado, pero sin la inteligencia o el filo que los hacía divertidos.

Técnicamente, la verdad a mi entender no es de las mejores, ya que la fotografía es oscura en exceso, lo que dificulta apreciar las escenas de tensión, y el montaje resulta torpe y sin ritmo. Las muertes, aunque algo sangrientas, y de verdad algunas realmente brutales, pierden impacto por falta de suspenso real. Hay un par de secuencias efectivas, como una persecución en una casa y un final con cierto caos, pero nada que se quede grabado como el garaje de "Scream" original o el coche de "Scream 2".

Para muchos críticos, esta es la peor parte de la saga, y lo nombran como algo olvidable, aunque, por otra parte, el público es más generoso, ya que valoran las actuaciones, y el regreso de Campbell, pero incluso entre fans hay división, para algunos es entretenimiento sangriento pasable, y para otros, una traición al espíritu meta e inteligente que definió la serie.

En resumen, amigos,"Scream 7" no es un desastre absoluto, porque tiene momentos de terror genuino y el carisma de sus veteranas estrellas, pero representa el agotamiento evidente de una fórmula que ya dio todo lo que podía dar. Se siente como una puñalada dentro del universo "Scream", en fin una versión barata y sin inspiración de lo que alguna vez fue revolucionario. La verdad si eres fan completista, vale la pena verla por Campbell y por cerrar ¿o no?, el arco de Sidney. Pero si buscas el ingenio, el susto fresco o la autocrítica afilada de las primeras entregas, esta séptima parte te dejará con ganas de gritar, pero de frustración. Yo por mi parte me despido de ustedes y hasta la próxima peli.
